Default Thinking about a 05 GTO

I have a few questions for you guys.

I went to Norwalk for the Ames nationals a few weeks ago and I got to watch a M6 04 GTO run for 3 days down the strip. I even got to race him in a time trial. My car was running 13.6-13.7 all weekend. I blew this guys doors off. He complained that no matter what he did, he was getting uncontrollable wheel hop. The best he could pull was 14.2-14.5 with a 2.5 60 ft.

Now, I am seriously considering getting an 05. With 50 more horsepower than the 04', how are they going to keep the IRS from hopping? Are there some kind of traction bars available? Was this guy just a terrible driver?

2nd question:

To pull off getting an 05' GTO, I would need to sell my 98 RA convertible (triple white). What should I be asking for it? It has 53k miles and I believe the color combo should add a bunch to the price. It also has a brand new top.

That's driver issues, not necessarily car issues

Several people with '04's have run quicker than your T/A.

If you drop the clutch from 3000 you don't get wheel hop.

'04 GTOs commonly run 13.7-14.0. auto or M6.

2.5 60' is retarded a friends '04 just did a few 1.9s with just nittos as traction mods.

I was hoping the driver sucked, because I really want to get the GTO. I test drove an 04 this weekend and I was really impressed. Only 2 complaints are the body roll is excessive IMO, compared to my T/A. #2 is it didn't pull all that hard. It feels like a heavy car. 50 more hp should take car of that.

Body roll is excessive.... when you compare the GTO to a fbody. Its not a fbody! A '67 GTO wasn't a '67 Firebird and a '04 GTO isn't a '02 fbody. Just how the car is. As for the motor pull.... I've driven my sister's '02 WS6 6speed and the motor feels way different than my GTO. I don't think its any faster, it just feels totally different. As for it feeling heavy, it is a little heavier than the fbodies were, but only a couple hundred pounds... thats only 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile.

Mine is exactly 300lbs difference.

As to "pull", I think that also has a lot to do with what you hear. The GTO unless modified doesn't get as loud inside as the F-Body does. It's better built and more insulated. Even with the windows open.

As to roll, this isn't an F-Body. It will roll a little more (although it isn't that obtrusive), but at the same time is a lot less punishing than the F-Body. It's a matter of give and take.

If the power is a problem, then you might just be better off getting the 05.

Wheel hop isn't a big issue, it hasn't been a problem on the 402HP versions of the car sold in other countries.
