Just to let you know I'm not a troll, I'm a member of norcal-ls1.com and on ls1.com since 2001 . I've had an '01 SOM M6 WS6 and have been talking to my dealer about ordering a 2006 GTO. He was taking awhile (finally going to put the order in Monday), and I had no reason to post until now.

Holding the letter in my hand that he mailed me, this is why 2005 production numbers were lower than expected (<11,000 the number is in couple other posts). Just some interesting facts as to how upper management fucked up and outside people viewed it as the GTO not selling well. From the way it reads, it sounds at first like orders will be pushed to April/May; but, if you read it over a couple times it sounds more like they're going to overstock lots early to make up for the spring/summer buying season.

This letter is intended to bring you up-to-date on the production plan for GTO for the first half of the 2006 calendar year to better plan your inventory.

For the 2006 production plan, we have front loaded the schedule to match the key selling months of GTO. Simply stated, we have our highest build schedule during the November and December consensus periods which relate to February and March production which will hit dealerships around the April/May time frame. History has shown that March through July is the peak selling season for RWD performance vehicles. Take this into consideration as you are planning your consensus needs for November and December consensus periods. Last year during the spring and summer time frame, GTO fell short on national supply. The bottom line is that we lost sales as a result of low inventory levels.

So far this year, GTO sales are up 6% and our projected sales forecast for the balance of the year given the Red Tag Event is strong and should clear out most of the 2005 models by year end as the 2006 models start to arrive.

Pontiac will continue to support GTO during 2006 with advertising and a competitive price point. We will also continue in all three racing series that GTO dominated this past year.

Please take this information into account for the November and December consensus periods as the allocations will be greater than what you may be accustom to. We expect GTO sales to remain strong for 2006 and ask that you inventory accordingly to capitalize on this opportunity.

I dont think it will be as hard for them to get rid of leftover 05's when the 06's hit lots anyhow since their are no major major changes like their was from 04 to 05.

On that note, I agree, their production schedule is half-*** backwards for the last few years making the cars hard to get during the summer and way too many on lots in the fall and winter.

This is true, I had to find a dealer 70 miles away to find a new one in August and there are about 12-15 dealers within that distance. But I bought a used one a dealership had. So I made out.

The dealers here were gunshy on the 05's because all the left over 04's. One larger dealer that had stock did extremely well

i had some trouble getting mine in May

i wanted midnight blue..but would've had to wait until the end of June for delivery

the PB came in from another dealership in washington.

when i bought mine they were easy to find. they flew off the lots here.

Typical GM, or Pontiac for that matter, I had to go 92 miles away ( 25 Pontiac Dealers in between) for my car couldn't get one of these anywhere, only built 2200 in 05' probably for the same reason they are delaying the order process on the GTO's, creates more demand..Just put the cars on the lots!!

interesting, thanks for the info. i was always under the impression that the bad sales where attributed to noone liking the car. in my area all i ever see are '04's sitting on lots.

Funny how GM can't learn from the same mistakes over decades. You telling me that it took until 2004 to realize that maybe you should stock your lots earlier in order to meet demand in summer? Some real idiots for upper management.

But it is interesting how this was interpreted by magazines as the GTO flopping in sales. That's why i ordered mine last week

sales were not low........over 99% of the 04's built are gone...I think there are around 40ish still around....

they built less than 11,000 2005 GTO's, not 2004's (check the title). sales were supposed to be upwards of 13k but they ran out on stock.

This is why gm continues to struggle. They just can't get it right. Anybody remember when the WS6 came out in 98? They just don't understand the performance enthsuisest market.

I suppose I may be asking a question that has already been answered, but does anyone know of GM's plans post 2006 for the GTO? I hope they keep making them, someone said maybe a new chassis etc...

Its kinda stupid to make the thing available at the end of the damn year.... cause the dealerships are going to try to push em out the door harder then getting them in the spring time and the cars selling themselves.

When I got mine, Memphis's largest Pontiac Dealer had just recieved 16 GTO's (at the end of Oct). Those were split between there 2 lots.

I picked up a Quick Silver Gray one with the 6 Spd Halloween morning.
While waiting to drive mine away 6 people looked at the different ones that were still on the lot.

Sucks to know that at the other lot they had one of the Cyclone Gray's with a 6Spd (kinda wanted the darker one).

Add on's for it were: a Skip Shift Eliminator, K&N FIPK, Flowmaster 40's, and a set of 18x8 HP Design Evo Lightnings (gloss black with crome lip) with Hankook T104's (I'll wear em out before she's completely broke in).

What would be nice is if they started to make the GTO a 2 seater on the Solistice Platform (hmmm 400Hp at 3000lb's would make for a mean little ride). That and make it so you could stuff some 19x9.5's in the back without having to tub it
