Ipod in 05 GTO???
I know this might belong in the stereo and electronics dept. but it seemed very specific to our cars.
How can I hook-up my ipod (60GB video) to my GOAT? I don't want to do the through the radio ****, I need it directly. Someone has to have figured it out by now.
Let me know

btw, did I mention these cars ROCK!!

Check this out to get an idea of price on a new head unit, to pull out your stock unit, solder in the wiring, and reinstall it. To me is a bit risky, and a pain in the ***. I'd rather spend the money and do it right.
Besides, it's a better quality unit.

its just an option. i had an aftermarket head unit for my ipod, but went back to stock for a few reasons. bluetooth phone compatable, 6 disk changer and steering wheel controls. my head unit didnt have an adapter to use the steering wheel controls, and i dont keep all my cds on my ipod.

I was watching some show on Tv, they had an Alpine head unit with the DVD screen on it, and they plugged in the Ipod, you have full control over the Ipod through the head unit, i thought that was awesome!

id love to have a headunit like that, but id rather put 1K into perfromance than a sound system. ive always like the dvd players/ touch screen head units, but ive never been able to get over the price tag

Their are some different ways to hook it in to the factory system, though not easy. I havent got around to doing it myself, but it should be well worth it in the end since it would be stock, yet considerably nicer than lugging around CD's.

Why don't you guys just get an itrip... Then you just tune the radio station to match the itrip and you can throw your ipod in your glove compartment, or whatever. NO wiring needed

Not to mention the iTrip gets interference as you drive through different areas, sometimes the static gets so bad that its useless

I just did the mod where you run a blank CD and have a stereo jack soldered to the radio. Works perfectly. With my Ipod I don't even use CD's anymore. Whats more, this did not cost me anything, I already had the stereo jack. Next thing I do is hardwire the power and Ipod signal into one of those single Ipod docks.
Here is a good link explaining the mod.

Does GM offer a ipod adapter kit? I work at VW and we can install them to charge th eipod and use the factory stereo/steering wheels controls.
I had called a service advisor but didn't get a concrete answer. Tried parts dept but closed.

the FM transmitter deals are useless in the Tampa area, there isnt 1 single radio frequency that isnt occupied by a station and all of them interfear with the tranmitter so much its like listening to 2 different types of music as once. The only choice for me personally is to hardwire the adaptor into my stock head unit. I refuse to give up sterring controls, 6 disc and the bluetooth for a nicer looking head unit that will have a wire to plug in my Ipod. all though I dont even have an Ipod, I use a Zune which Im sure no one had figured anything out for them yet.
