all this thread is....is a bunch of f-body and gto owners trying to say they have bigger *****... f-body...live axle great to launch. with gto... weak *** driveshaft and irs which equals weak launches... an f-body is roughly close to an 04 in power so i think that slides in the f-bodys favor... but an ls2 goat will in my opinion edge out a f-body...and people if your f-body has mods then shut the hell up because we are talking stock for stock...not stuff like my 600hp camaro blew the hood off my buddies gto....lets think before we post...and someone tell me the weight of a f-body

ls2 goat from what ive seen takes the f-body by a little not much but a little say... by maybe half a second but it all depends on drivers as well...i have beaten ls2 goats before..and im sure if i can a f-body could as well...they are great cars...much better for drag than a goat but if you put 2 equal drivers in both cars the ls2 should get him...matter of fact i encourage anyone here with a stock f-body and gto to find a stock car opposite yours and race em at the next drag meet...the only rules would be to have street tires...and no mods...and race the cars then switch drivers to opposite vehicle and post up!

Edmunds quotes 3725. I will have to weigh mine to see the variance.
300lbs is still a lot, especially when you have the flaky rear, skinny tires, and sloppy drivetrain.
On paper:
2002 Camaro SS
350hp
3400lbs
1 piece driveshaft
solid rear
3.42 gear
275 tires
2004 GTO
350hp
3700lbs
2 piece driveshaft
IRS
3.46 gear
245 tires
No brainer. Camaro. Same engine. Lighter weight. Better power transfer.
LS2 GTO may have 50 more hp, but still has the same hurdles to overcome. Throw in a LS2 GTO with 18's and the factory 235 tires with tiny sidewalls, and it's an uphill battle. Stock for stock, LS1 F-Body vs LS2 GTO isn't an easy call.

I think this article puts this to rest even though both were on the spray. The 2001 WS6 was lightly modded with a 125 shot and lost in the quater to a completely stock 2005 GTO with a 100 shot.

lol, this debate will never end. my friends day about **** himself when he lost in his 480hp lt1 camaro to a cam only GTO. he says "they are just fat, slow cows" so i said, what does that make you?![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)
i love both. my future garage will hopefully be a spice red ls2 goat with some bolt ons and a cheaTR type cam with a track f bod for the weekends....the GTO might need juice though.....goddamn, it never stops, and i dont even own it yet lol

I agree though...it's tough to find a driver to driver comparison.
FWIW I drove my buddies GTO (He can't drive my M6 so no relevant data there) my times were 13.3 ~ 13.4 while he was running 13.2 ~ 13.4 all day.
Just like you said though...too many variables A4 vs M6, tune vs stock.

My 1967 GTO felt faster than an 1998 WS6, ha ha.

That's why I look at the absolute best times when trying to compare the 'best' car. At the extreme end they are both running 12.8x @ 108.xx mph... (I believe some GTOs have gone 109.xx mph so advantage GTO there on the extreme end, my best mph was only 108.59)

I was full weight and banged the limiter going from 2nd to 3rd or who knows... You can see how 'agressive' my launch was here...

My GTO ended up running 13.25@105 when it was stock. Just felt "slow" even though it was quicker. It is very smooth compared to an F-Body and is very decieving.
Just a quick note. Don't forget the GTO gets much better gearing in the M6. Rear gears are about the same but the tranny is much better in the GTO. About the same as a 3.90 geared F-Body. Kind of negates the weight advantage. Provided you can use the torque multiplication.

I felt the same way when I bought my 04 GTO. My 96 WS6 always felt faster. It ran 13.50@104 back in 96 when it was stock.
