Entertaining read for the most part.
So post #1 is basically talking about racing yet this thread got away from that. I personally have never raced my GTO against an f-body and I never had one of my f-bodys against a GTO. I've never even taken the GTO to the track.
But the cool thing is we are all fast! My neighbor has a stock 05 Mustang GT (300 hp) and pisses his pants when he rides with me. My car can dead hook (preload) or I can roast the tires THROUGH three gears. My GTO is an A4 with an h-pipe and tune and still put down 340/340 with 1,200 miles on the odometer. The best A4 f-body dyno pull that was comparable I've seen was my 2000 Z28 A4 that had a new y-pipe, lid, and maybe a few more very small things that put down 329 (freak). So those numbers are close.
As for opinions~ I've owned 10 f-bodys from 3rd gens to 4th gens, from one V6 car, to Formulas, T/A's and Z28's. I've owned one GTO. That single GTO is reason enough to never own another 4th gen f-body. In my eyes, the GTO is such a better all around car. To me, the 4th gens looked dated and most are ragged out nowadays. GM has stepped up their game with recent offerings and that makes the 4th gens feel that much older as well.

I agree with you.
I love my F-body, but lacks especially in the interior. One of it's flaws.
GTO, CAN or MAY lack very slightly here and there when compared to an F-body, but every plus I think about it makes up for its con; and that con is that little bit better with in regards to the F-body.
All comes down to preference and experiences.

OK I need to jump in this 1 to. When my 98 trans am just had a cutout, lid, a ud pulley I would WALK 04 gtos and I would also beat the ls2 cars by about 2 cars from 0-100. The 05 gto I raced had a tune i guess and also a hpipe with a catback and a cai and I still beat it. After I put the headers on it got bad for him

my 1993 lt1 camaro with a 2002 camaro ss front end has smoked 5.7L gtos like nothing and my cars auto and all the gto's ive raced were 6 speeds but id have to say that 6.0L gto halls some *** and i know its faster than some of the ls1s like a 98 ls1 only runs 13.8's in the quarter so go figure but the 2002 ss 35th anv runs like 13.2's in the quarter so go figure the 6.0L will outrun some of the ls1's stock and lt1s but not the 5.7L gto its slow power to weight ratio
MAN id LOVEEEE to see ur lt1 do that. Ohh at full weight now

Thats a race I had we both had passengers. The gto had a h pipe with flowmasters outback a cai and a predator tune I believe.
All I had was a 3000stall which doesnt work for ****,cutout,Lts and a drag radial.
Oh he was also on a drag radial as well
EDIT
The gto was a 05 LS2

Despite the tranny of the GTO, it's no suprise that you won.
Yes, you said your converter doesn't work well, but it's going to help you immensely. Especially in the situation of a dig race.
In my opinion that's not a fair race. Your mods are far superior to his. It's no suprise that you destroy them.
Looking at figures at the track that I've witnessed and I'am sure people will agree with me. A converter helps drop A4 Ls1/2 (F-body or GTO) cars anywhere from .3-.5 to a whole second in some cases. I've seen many cars do this, but that is my personal experience. Other may vary.

You have a 3000 stall. The GTO has more or less an intake, exhaust and a tune. You both have drag radials, that's irrelevant.

I've owned both. My Goat is a bit faster through the quarter, and much faster after 100. My '01 Trans Am when bone stock would fairly consistently run 13.3x's. Best time I ever got out of it was a 13.279, with my worst being a 13.8
First time out with the goat I ran a 13.1. That being said, it is much harder to drive and I had to work my way down from a 14.2 that same day. I dd the goat, that's why I bought it. The T/A was a fun car, but it was my fair weather car. I'd like to pick up another T/A someday to strip down and build as a racecar.

No I agree but **** when I just had the cutout and the midwest 3000stall and a lid I would still pull on the gto from a roll but it wasnt even worth mentioning it was almost dead nuts even but i did have a very slight pull. Not to mention I still had/have my ls1 intake manifold its not even a ls6. When we had the same exact mods besides me having the 3000stall I still had the advantage
What I've been saying; practically all my posts have had a certain jist if you will to what you just said.
On paper these cars are different, yes facts matter, but the real world situation is going to prove one or the other. So many variables to take in along with preference and experience. Along with much more.

There are a few GTO's in the 9's to my knowledge. GTO's are farely new compared a 4th gen F-body. So who know's time may tell, and change that time into a reality.
Well if you really wanted to go that far with a GTO............arguably pointless.

I always wondered if my car was just strong or if it was the 01+ cars in general but my car ran hard through the 1/4 and doesn't lose anything on the top end against my friends 06 GTO (only gone up to ~145 though so 'maybe' the superior top end hadn't kicked in yet?)
