400hp doesn't cut it anymore, either. I read somewhere that 500 is the new 300. I believe it.

I'd sell my GTO to get back into another Camaro. Too bad I owe $24k on an '05 with 33k miles.

I digress... The GTO is a good driver, but anything can be made to be really fast, it would just be easier to do it with a f-body.

if you would trade the potential of a gto for what a camaro has to offer to go "really fast" thats your choice and a confused one at that...

lol...maybe so.
But they will all still come from the almighty LS1.

no offense but i'm pretty positive that performance parts and tuning for a camaro are far more common than parts for a GTO. Pick up a jegs or a Summit.
(Only talking about magazines here) and you will find maybe headers and an axleback for a goat, not very much. While you can find almost anything for a LS1.

I looked for a WS6 before I bought the goat. Reason: They were cheaper.
I just couldn't get over the mullet having redneck stigma that seems to go with those cars.
I know that will **** a lot of you guys off, just my opinion
I dont care if the GTO falls to $5K, I keep my cars until well after they are paid off. Plus I only paid $21K for mine a year ago

It has dropped significantly in the past year months. Back in march of 2007 when I purchased mine, you had to pay $25 for a nice 2005/6 with miles under 20K.

now the "2006" cars are getting to be up to 3 years old, so lots more people are stepping up, or out of them. Gas prices are not helping.

I figured I would be able to sell my 14 month old GTO for around $25K at this time based on prices last year, but I think even with low miles, and a 6 speed, it would be hard to get that price in this market.

no offense but I think they're pretty even on the redneck thing...except for the fact of the T/a and smoky and the bandit...but hell, you know Kitt and Hasslehoff got some vagina in their T/A

keep looking. jegs and summit are the k-mart of parts stores as far as im concerned. they are like an online autozone.

gto > f-body

I think the reason they don't sell as good is because people can make a F-Body faster than them quite easily and people would rather have a higher quality car(E.G. A C5 z06) that could be bought used for around the same price but are faster than the goat. Just my opinion though.

I know there are plenty of parts out there online for the goat and pretty much everything. But there are plenty more for the camaro and transam and that's just the way it is. They're older and have been out longer than the goat, people know more about them, parts are more common and cheaper, and tuning is better. Just my opinion though, i'm sure goats are easy to mod too.

BTW- the whole GTO>F-Body thing...is just bullshit.
Take the same engine out of a camaro and put it in a GTO (E.G. 2004 GTO) The ls1 camaro/ta will spank it.
Take the LS2 out of the 05-06 goats and put it in the camaro/ta, the 06 gto will get spanked...
You can't say one is better than the other.

transmission and drag coefficient are very intricate areas in racing and 200lbs of weight isnt that big of a deal.

edit: not to mention rear end ratios.

this is true but the goats have to weigh more than 200 lbs over camaros..The best i've ever seen a 5.7 GTO pull at the track (M6) is a 14.0.
I've seen a bone stock m6 camaro run a 13.4...there has to be something more than 200 lbs or some kind of different transmission gearing/specs. Plus, aren't the 04 LS1's rated higher than the 02s? Or was this just a myth? Someone said they were 350 instead of 325.

2002 Z28 Convert curb weight (lbs) 3,576

2002 Z28 Coupe curb weight curb weight (lbs) 3,443

2002 Firebird Convert curb weight (lbs) 3,541

2004 GTO curb weight (lbs) 3,725

2005 GTO curb weight (lbs) 3,725

if someone runs a 14.0 with an 04 m6 gto, thats the driver, unfortunately. 04 gto's are indeed rated at 350hp/365tq, not sure of the intricacies in the engine, but they are capable of very low 13's.

so 282 lbs. Call it 300. Still, I am yet to see a bone stock M6 04 goat run a 13 and DEFINATELY not a low 13, but, I'll believe it when I see it.
And that's in real life at Atlanta Dragway...I go up there all the time and have never seen one. I know that 6.0's are capable of low 13's but i highly doubt the 5.7's are...

children children please

now i own two cars
a 69 camaro ( which i know isnt a ls1 but please cope with me )
and a 2005 gto

now i understand the the gto is prolly the most comfortable sports car right now.

ive been in a 2002 SS and my buddys 2005 vette and let me tell you, as a 6ft 2 guy they suck *** on a trip longer than 30 mins lol

now i can transport 4 grown *** adults in my gto no problem from LA to Vegas and back without a single complaint.
thats why our cars weigh more.
as for the price of the cars u can get a very nice camaro ss 02 model for about 9-12k
a nice gto would run from 18-24k

now what alot of people dont realize is all in all i believe they made about 40,000 gtos between 04-06 and about 5,000 or so have been wrecked or destroyed so these cars will be going up in value later on but thats just my opinion.

i love my GTO and its wide tough stance so yeah...
