Default Increasing Air Flow Thru Radiator?

Just wondering if anyone has removed that piece of plastic that is in front of the radiator? It seems like the car would move more air (run cooler) without that. Especially for open road racing. But does it serve some function that is not obvious?

Like it makes the air dam work better.....I'm wondering if that would actually reduce the ram affect by letting air out instead of forcing it thru the radiator. Looking at it from all angles it also appears it's designed to keep heat from the radiator away from the air intake. Not that it should affect my BGRA setup, as long as I had the seal installed.

But I'm looking at this for open road racing. Figuring I could cut out the area behind my TAs lic plate cover to let more air in. And with 2 tranny coolers in front of the AC condensor, I will need air.

Look at most ANY WC, T1 or T2 car and yu will see they have NO fans.

While they do run larger radiators, at speed, there is plent of air fow to keep the car cool. THe fans will actually restrict flow at higher speeds ...

I think the bumper support is in the way of making a
"front breather". The panel is "supposed" to duct the
air from the chin spoiler on up and crush it into the
radiator. At one time I had added a lower plastic piece
to my chin spoiler in pursuit of more cooling air "crush".
It wore out (scrubbing over too many parking-lot
chocks) and I haven't replaced it yet. I would like to
find some higher-draw fans for the Florida heat. But I
have seen nothing of the sort advertised. I have
bought a couple of the "frame rail" style transmission
coolers so I can get my brick-type trans cooler off the
condenser and "lighten up the stack". A higher capacity
radiator is on my "someday list" as well.

If the fan is running it will not be a restriction to airflow.
If it isn't running, then maybe somewhat. I wonder how
it would work out, taking off the back shroud and the
front duct panel, and put one or two big-*** pusher
fans on the front instead.

Either way, it restrictes airflow. It may move air 10-15 mph, but you are traveling at 80+ most of the time.

The plastic peice in question is the shroud. It is necessary with a bottom breather.

Ah, it's the fan shroud....took one off my 57 Chevy once....BIG mistake! Thanks Louis! So it appears that unless I plan to go all the way & make a front breather out of the car, I should just leave it alone. And supposably it can be done jimmy. My friend is going to be doing it to his SS.

As for a higher capacity radiator, I bought the SLP version & have had nothing but trouble with it. I bouhgt mine in April & I'm about to replace it (leaks tranny fluid in & coolant out). So if you go that route, think LG or Be-Cool. I think they are the only others that offer tranny coolers.

Close! Bill & Boyce.

Since LG won't answer me, I am looking pretty hard at a Be-Cool right now. They seem to have everything I want covered. Higher flow, all aluminum, tranny cooler, brackets for fans & AC condensor. And 'only $700', $800 if I want it polished. I shoulda done this the first time around.
