Default Autocross tires

I used to do alot of autocrossing in the early to mid '90s and think I still have the track record for G stock at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod I was running Yokohammy A008 tires back then but haven't kept up on what people use now. What is the tire of choice for the autocross now?

Thanks!
Tom

I see a lot of the Kumho V710's, and I've personally used the street Kumho Ecsta MX's (the MX's arn't a recomendation BTW, they arn't race rubber) which I liked, but I also see some using Hoosiers.

On a side note, what's the widest race rubber you guys would put on a 16x8" rim for autocrossing?

265's for traction, 245's for responsiveness.

v710's are where everyone seems to be heading now on the bigger cars, myself included

Generally speaking, an autocross tire works better in cooler temps. A road race tire develops more grip at higher temps. An autocross tire just doesn't get the chance to heat up the way a road race tire does

Thanks! I have RR a little and plan on doing it a lot more this year, I have Yokohama AO32's out back and want to put matching tire's out front for better traction... All this talk of the V710's made me curious...

Thanks for the info. You don't think the 265's will wear oddly or prematurely? I'd heard 255 was the widest I should go.

They'd be a little wide for the rim thats for sure, but they can be squeezed onto it. I ran 245's when I was on the stock size rim and was very happy.

Kind of off topic... but do you know where they do the autocross now? I live next to the Sandwich gate to Otis, and I cant get in there now since 9/11. Whenever I tried to one guy would ask for my ID while the other guy would stand on the other side of the car with a really large gun pointed at me

V710's for the roadcourse or the AutoX? I am looking for info on the road course side of it. My stock BFG's chunked pretty bad on the RC, and I want a tire that can take more heat. The stock Goat is brutal on front tires, I have some things I plan to do to it once it warms up a bit..

Anybody run Toyo Proxes RA1's?

I ran Nitto 555RIIs last year and beat some Vettes and Vipers on a medium speed track. There were a few Vette owners checking out my tires...and full interior.
