Default what cam specs for road racing?

i have the g5x3 114 and i like it so much the way it pulls ,very streetable, and is producing (441hp 410tq with pp heads)but when i compare it to the g5x4 this cam revs about 1000 rpm higher than the g5x3 which is around 6600-6800 and make more HP but a little less TQ . I'm currently biulding a road race car (240sx with LS1 on it and t56 with 3.7 ratio rear end) i was wondering which cam i should go to, or should i go for a smaller cam? experts needs your advice.

If the engine will be logging many hours between/before the valve train gets maintained/refreshed, look into a less aggressive lobe than XE-R grinds. A Comp XE grind, say in the 228-232 range, about .57x lift on a 110lsa will be valvetrain friendly and have a decent powerband without being peaky.
Also, look into roadrace friendly Cam Motion lobes on a cam of similar size (contact Cam Motion directly).

If the valvetrain will be refreshed often, run XE-R, LSK, whatever lobe you'd like that will fit your needs with fresh Comp 921s, or any spring that's proven to take some high lift, aggressive lobe abuse.

Good point!

Katech has a Torquer cam which is essentially a tightened up ls6 cam.

When I was at 24 hrs Daytona, snooping around the paddocks, I bumped into TPIS and they also specify a cam similar in size to an ls6 cam, on a tighter lsa, with a bit more lift.

The GMPP Grand Am Cup cam is another RR grind.

Best to look into what the rules limit you to.

Also, this grind might suit a weight reduced car rather nicely:

Comp XE : 234/236 .576/.578 110lsa 108 icl

Road race cams usually have an extremely tight lsa...lift and duration depend on class, hp, etc. Stay away from any cam with a fast ramp rate unless you want to trash a set of heads your first time out (probably not that bad, but they will eventually beat your valvetrain to death). Call up LG or Katech and see what they suggest. Both of them do fantastic work.

LG will spec an LG cam (XE-R), unless you ask them for a custom grind.
Katech deals with rules limited classes, so they'll spec a tightened up ls6 cam - their "Torque Cam".
