Default Lights for aftermarket gauges

For those running aftermarket gauges, what circuit are u tieing into, and where? Noob question but I can't find an answer that I feel comfortable with. 02 TA. For switched power are u guys just tieing into the open IGN spot on the fuse box beside the steering wheel control fuse?

I tied into the IGN spot myself originally.

Yes there's 2 open spots on that panel that you can slide a wire into..

Get a spade connector and crimp it onto the end of the 12v+ wire for the gauge and slide it into one of the spots labeled "accessories"

Test it out by turning the key on..

Does the accessory slot work for the lights, or does it come on with the ignition? I have my switched power going into the open IGN slot. I'd test it but my car is in pieces right now so turning it on to test isn't an option, or I would have tried it. Thanks guys.

It will work that way however it will not allow you to turn the lights off on gauges. They will be on just as soon as ignition is turned on. I ended up running a second fire off dimmer circuit in the same panel that allows for on only during lights on.

that's what im looking to do, as I don't want them on all the time. Where did you tie into the dimmer circuit? Right at the fuse box or somewhere further down the line? Do you know what color the wire was? Thanks a lot.

This is how I did it. Mine is a 02 WS6 not sure if camaro is the same. I did one of those fuse tap that slides over existing on the 5amp dimmer fuse. I was not able to pullout the fuse panel so I can't get the color. I did a lot of extra wiring for my gauges their own circuits for power feed.

If the dimmer works I will do the same. I wasn't sure which to tap into for the lights. Thanks a lot!

Works PERFECTLY that way and they only come on when you turn on the lights (the lighting that is) otherwise rest works as intended.

Just for future searchers, I ended up tieing into the grey wire at the dimmer switch, which hopefully will allow me to adjust the brightness along with the other gauges. Should be able to put the battery in shortly and try it out.

My method also works perfectly for dimming as the voltage changes at that fuse junction. Placing a meter and testing verifies it as mine function exactly the same way as the dash lights do

I had every intention of doing it the way you did, but I couldn't find the proper size "add a fuse" to tie into it right at the box. I only had the really small ones. The grey wire is part of that circuit. Thanks a lot for the help.
