Can someone give me a detailed run down of how to disassemble and clean my roller lifters they have been in two motors that had a spun bearing I'm not replacing them because they only have about 500 miles on them there brand new still but I want to clean and inspect for debris or anything harmful to my brand new short block I have to put them in

Just pop that retainer clip out with a small screw driver. They are stupidly simple inside with only 4 parts.

No.. it's the retainer clip, lifter cup, a spring and two parts that I do not know the name for. One is a flat disc and the other is the main body of the lifter. So I guess a lifter is 5 parts, lifter case, pin and roller but I've never removed the pin and roller and you won't have to in order to clean it all.

Generally the main body has some sort of oil suction holding it in place so you'll need to use a pair of needle nose pliers to gently remove it.

Default Ls7 lifter how to disassemble and clean

To relieve the "suction" you have to poke the one-way valve ball in the bottom of the plunger using a long pick... then pull the plunger out using expanding circlip pliers.

The one-way valve (cage, tiny spring, ball) also comes off the end of the plunger.

U can also soak the lifters on hot, hot water to also help in relieving the stuck lifter piston. I've done 2 sets, have it down pat now!!!

You can gently remove them with needle nose pliers, too. I never knew their was a way to relieve the suction/vacuum.

There's no guarantee that new lifters are clean or sssembled correctly.

Just wanted to bump this back up one more time I'm getting ready to disassemble mine in a few minutes I'll get pictures of them torn apart and then cleaned I figure what good is a thread I started to learn something if it isn't completed with a few pictures and what I learned to help others just a fyi for those reading these lifters are not collapsed at all there not bad lifters trying to be 're used there new lifters that had a bad bearing within 500 mikes of install so why waste money if they can 've cleaned there may or may not be anything inside them at all but better safe than sorry

Can anyone confirm that the way I have the parts layed out is the correct order that they go back together in I'm about 95% sure but it would always be nice for someone to confirm it also but if it's confirmed by someone else then at least we will have pics up for anyone else that wants to do this

Default Ls7 lifter how to disassemble and clean

What lifter is that (pics show 2-piece plunger)...?

The oil metering disc and the pushrod cup are not shown (are these part of your upper plunger...?).

Here's a pic from my (crappy) phone...

LS7 lifter... you can see the plunger is one-piece.

This is what the pushrods cup looks like on mine ?? It's it's own piece it comes out first after removing retainer clip then the plunger piece I guess it's called that has the small spring, check ball , and the piece they sit in followed by the last big spring I didn't see any flat disc piece like u have shown I only assume these are ls7 lifters because I paid for and ordered ls7 lifters but they don't exactly look like yours I'm confused now I want to throw them out and order new ones which sucks these are new buy they did have a fair amount of fine grit in them I just wonder if they were correctly assembled and if they may have been the cause of the motor spinning a bearing being brand new

Default Ls7 lifter how to disassemble and clean

They are probably good lifters, but different from the stock LS7 lifters, and I'm not sure that their correct application is an LS engine.

What is the part number on the box that they came in...?

Where did you order from, and what part number did you order...?

Yes, my new LS7 lifters were dirty on the inside.

I've had them about 18 months they just weren't used much during that time I don't have the box for them I ordered from tick performance tho and I have the paper that came with my order summary on it I will see if the Part number is on that paper they were ordered with cam pushrods timing set gaskets trunion upgrade ported oil pump etc so all the parts were for a 5.3 iron block bored to ls1 specs but that doesn't mean there wasn't possibly a mistake I didn't catch
