Default Looking for a series to run in

I know some of you guys know about my build, 97 S10, 370ci turbo with a glide. Street legal except for no mufflers and cats.

I looked at the Tex275 class but these guys are making a **** ton of power to run mid to high 4's in the 1/8th at 3200+ lbs. Not sure if I want to spend that much lol.

So I need a heads up type or grudge series. Maybe even an index class. I don't want to run brackets anymore, plus the turbos aren't consistent enough anyway.

Thoughts? For Texas BTW.

Check your local tracks. 2 around me have a "list". Heads up racing with instant green. 10 spots. Been real popular with guys who don't quite fit into a class.

Yea, I ran IHRA Top Dragster and my home track is San Antonio raceway. They only have weekend bracket races now and the couple times a year grudge race. Houston gets most of the races that I might be able to run, not sure everything that they run, but its a 3 hour drive each way. Then up near Dallas, they do some of this too, but that's even farther. And the track websites don't mention anything about classes other than what they run themselves, like bracket stuff. The traveling series is more what I am hunting for.

You could do NMCA's true street, there's got to be some Ultra street classes also.

I looked at their website, and unless they have other areas, all their races are far from Texas. Having a hard time finding info online. Lots of stuff out of state.

You're like right in the middle, so it'd be far for any series to my knowledge.

There's tons of no prep, grudge stuff down that way I think.

I know that there's a texas X275 down there somewhere. At least I've seen videos online at least.

There is an X275, Tex275 class here and I am no where near fast enough to run with them. I would need well over 2k rwhp to be sort of close. That's not going to happen with a turbo small block. These guys are making passes in the mid 4's at 3300 lbs. I have heard some guys are capable of 3.90's. That's Promod kind on power on a small tire.

I really have been searching and its hard to get any info on these classes. Several websites when googled are just bugged with viruses. Some have facebook pages like National no prep racing assoc. but there isn't any info on it either and the pages are rarely used by anyone. Really seems to be an underground type of racing lol. Like they want us to know it exists, but they don't want to give any info about it. Fight Club.

It's possible, we weighed ~3250-3275 and went 4.56. It doesn't make over 2k, I can guarantee that. Maybe in the 16-1700 range but not north of 2k. 400ci LS with a GTX series on it.

It takes way more power than 2k to go 3.9x's. That kind of power is 3500+(481x with 98 or 102's) at 3000-3100 lbs.

With our Top Sportsman car we made 1250 on motor, 632 Reher Morrison, then had 2 kits for another 4-500 depending on the track. It weighed 2300 and went 4.50's in the 1/8th and 7.0 1/4. So if you add another 1000 lbs to the car, that accounts for about 1/10 of a second per 100 lbs added. So roughly 1 full second for the added 1000 lbs. It doesn't calculate to go 4.50's with 1700 hp at 3300 lbs. We ran that hp at 2300 lbs and went 4.50's . Our Promod had a twin plug Brad Anderson engine with a superman blower and went 3.90's . It dyno'd at Fontana at over 3k hp.

So trying to calculate it, it needs a ton more power than my SBE is going to be able to make.

Well are you referring to a stock bottom end or a turbo small block in general. I'm asking because in the recent post you talk about SBE and the post above it says a turbo small block..

Stock bottom end 6.0 turbo motor. So it is a turbo small block as well since its a small block engine.

The TEX 275 class allows any engine size, so you get some guys running big cubes and then spraying the hell out of them. Hard to compete with what I am building.

I like the outlaw stuff, like what just ran at the Armageddon event last weekend. Maybe the true street class. The small tire class might work if I can run the times, but guys like boosted GT and stronger guys are running it. There are the index classes for the no prep stuff too. But again, trying to actually find info about it is like sending a 9 year old to the dentist by herself to have teeth pulled. Isn't happening.

FWIW, 1/10 second per 100 lbs doesn't apply to the horsepower numbers you're throwing around. But if you campaign a 3-sec ProMod I would think you know that

I don't campaign a promod. It belonged to a buddy that we also ran the other cars. At those HP numbers In the Promod you are right, but at around 1000 or so, your not. In our top Sportsman cars running 7.0 to 7.30 in the 1/4 it does calculate to about 1/10 per 100 lbs of weight.

Show me a time slip of your car, add 200 lbs of lead into it and run it again. Show me the slip. I'll be pretty close. Its not perfect but its close.

These were my buddy's Top Sportsman cars . Both were sold along with the Promod. He also sold his Top Dragster. I sold my Top Dragster as well. We went back to stock car racing for more seat time. I now have my S10 and a road race car. He runs 2 modified dirt cars.

90 Beretta that I was crew chief on. 632 Reher-Morrison on 2 kits. This car was about 150 lbs heavier than the Grand Am below. About 2450 lbs This car ran about 7.20 consistently. Same trany rear gear ect. Engines were twins. Fiberglass body, Aluminum interior panels.

This is the Grand Am that I crewed on. 632 reher-Morrison on 2 kits. 1250 hp on motor. That's me backing him up. This car ran 7.0's consistently. 2300 lbs Full carbon fiber body and interior panels. It was a Pro Stock car.

This was my Top Dragster. 565 Reher-Morrison about 925hp 1800 lbs running 7.65

And for info and fun. Larry Reep, the owner and driver of the Grim Reaper Outlaw Fuel Altered was the crew chief on the promod. His wife Mary Reep drives it now. Or at least she used to. I haven't seen them in years. He may have retired by now.

No, its all good and fine. But with our cars at the power they were making, it was pretty close. You can play around with this calculator and see what I mean. Just plug in the numbers and you will see that the 1/10th per 100 lbs is pretty dead on. Also I need to clarify that this is based on 1/4 mile ET and not 1/8th mile
http://www.tciauto.com/tc/racing-calculators/

So based on the calculator the 3300 lbs with 1700hp will run 4.50's
