I've been rocking a dented spray painted POS hood for 4 years, and finally found a bolt on light weight hood to replace it. Scored this for $100, turns out it's carbon fiber too I think. Guy was cleaning out his garage selling his sons crap he'd left, said he paid around $600-700 for it, but I have no idea who made it. I havnt seen one with the heat extractors before, but $100 for a lightweight hood I can't complain.
Well **** me it won't clear my lid. The top of the lid always touched the stock hood and I hoped it would be in the bulge behind the scoop but it's not. So I either have to figure out how to lower the lid, make a real SS intake work which I'm not sure I can, or go back to a CAI. Also has no provisions for the shocks to hold it up, am I supposed to use a broom handle?
Good news is it drops 20 lbs off the front end. Old hood is 45lbs including the shocks no hardware, new hood is 25 lbs no hardware.
Anybody have any intake ideas that would solve my issue here? There's nothing behind the scoop, like it would be great if it was carbed with a regular carb intake. An SS intake would be way too far back, a ultra Z or trans am intake would be too far forward. I would like to use the ram air thing if possible, even though it's out of the air stream, but aside from casting or molding my own intake to seal to the scoop it looks like it'll be worth nothing beside cooling the engine bay.
