Todd, I have a 5.3 in my 65 Cutlass using the stock chevy engine frame mounts... rearward, and the 302-2 pan. The tie rods hit my pan just enough to start carving into it on the drivers side...I know this isn't supposed to happen. stock suspension. I have a 2004R tranny and I'm wondering if I need the 71222008HKR tranny mount? The car works great... no drivetrain vibrations... I was wondering about lowering my rear mount? I have never checked the driveline angles. Ive been driving the car for a year and could just try not to crank the wheel so much... Your thoughts would be appreciated
Looking at the picture of the pan clearance in post 151 I wish I could get that! Is it the stock chevy frame mounts that are the problem or the tilt of the engine due to the tranny mount I'm using on the 2004R argh...lol

Hello 442 Scotty. The components of the Hooker system are all designed together around the geometry of the Holley 302-2 oil pan to eliminate issues like what you are experiencing. Since you are using the stock frame stands, I can't say whether or not the Hooker crossmember will help alleviate your problem.
One question I do have is in relation to drive angle... The Hooker setup uses a 1 inch drop for the rear axle whereas my car is a little old school and is up 1/2 to 1 inch. Once everything arrives I will check the angles (which was pretty good before having to do this). Do you have any drive angle info from your different mock ups seeing as how you found a 1 inch drop optimal?

My reference to running a 1" rear suspension drop would be in regards to that being the maximum that could realistically be expected to achieve optimized U-joint working angles when using the Hooker swap components with a GM 10 or 12 bolt rear end. You could lower your car even further If your car is equipped with a Ford 9" rear end, due to their lower pinion height.
Since you are running a raised rear, I'm guessing you will achieve the best U-joint working angles possible by leaving out the 3/16" mount spacer that comes with the Hooker transmission crossmember, but only measuring will bear that out to be the case.
While I am waiting for my new mounts/bracket to arrive, I have the Hooker cast iron exhaust manifolds and see that there are adapters, to tie into the exhaust pipes, 70701328-RHKR, for these manifolds and the 64-67 swap according to the Blackheart exhaust instructions... My current adapters, from the 78-87 setup hit the suspension on the passenger side (they were the only thing available last year). Is this a new part number? Does not come in Holley pricing but shows up on Carid of all places?
Those adapters were indeed developed as part of the 64-67 A-body system and seem to have been overlooked for getting placed on the Holley website. I appreciate you calling that out...I will send out a notification to get them added. Here's an image of the prototypes on the development vehicle that shows their fitment.
Part number comes up now and shows currently unavailable. No doubt lol. I ordered it through Carid earlier today and it looks like a couple of weeks till they get shipped. Hoping!
In Post #63 the Corvette FEAD with it's low mount AC was not referenced. Is this not a viable option? I am looking at the LS3/4L65 Connect and Cruise that is shipped with the Corvette water pump and balancer.

I can't say for certain that the Corvette factory compressor/bracket will fit as I don't have them in my inventory of mock-up components.

So I got a email from Holley customer service today telling me that the 70701328-RHKR is no longer available and to use the 70701313-RHKR which is for the 68-72 A body.
You were given incorrect information by whomever you spoke with. The 70701313-RHKR adapters will not fit the 64-67 A-body cars. The 70701328-RHKR is a good number and you can find it on the Holley website...the "buy it now" button will not be displayed until there are parts on the shelf.

The new mounts went in like a dream by the way even though the engine/trans was already in the car. I just raised it up and pulled out the old Chevy mounts and frame brackets and the others slid right in

Glad to hear you had a positive experience with the engine brackets; they do solve a lot of issues when used in conjunction with the 302-2 oil pan.
