It looks like it could possibly be casting flash that came off the block. I found a number of small pieces like that still connected when I was prepping my block. They just cracked off.

how can I tell if it is casting flash or bearing material? Is there some way I can test?

If that was bearing material, you'd see a LOT of glitter in with it. Not much way for a bearing to have chips come off like that and not weld itself to the crank. Any way you can take some super close up pics of the chips?

Still pretty hard to tell what it could possibly be. I wouldn't totally rule bearings out, but generally if chunks come off bearings, you're going to see a lot of glitter in the oil. Also, don't rule out the possibility that the metal didn't come from your engine at all. There's always a chance that your oil filter had poor quality control and metal was introduced from the machinery that makes it. IIRC, Car and Driver or Motor Trend had a brand new C7 Vette LT1 fail due to a contaminated oil filter. Watch your oil pressure closely, and check again at the next oil change. If you get more metal, then I'd start being more concerned. You can also check your dipstick often and wipe it on a clean cloth to see if you're starting to get glitter in the oil. If those chunks were from bearings, it's only a matter of time until you see the telltale shimmer.

Are those pieces ferrous? Meaning does a magnet attract them?

The first post.
A better pic can be made with a lighter background.
