Default 383 external balance damper

what is the best damper for 383/400 external balance? my engine has Summit damper and Im not comfortable with it I've heard a small damper will let the engine revs fast and large damper will increase the torque is this right? what do you recommend for this set up : 383ci,5.7 rods, flat top pistons with 2 valve reliefs,Brodix track 1 heads, air gap performer rpm intake,Xtreme energy hydraulic roller cam 224/230 (this will be changed in the future) I want this engine to rev very fast and Im not concerned about the performance because after few months I will order a short block

Well, a ATI would do the job, or a fluid damper.

I have been using the summit balancer for 15 years and it handles 7600-8200 just fine.

Gotta like that!

O/P I'm not so sure you have that right. I can see the smaller balancer letting you pick up power (tq and hp) due to having less mass, if that is the case, than the larger balancer it replaces. However, you will not pick up torque with a large one.

I think you are thinking of the other end of the engine and flywheels. If you put on a heavier flywheel it can "feel" like you have more torque as compared to a lightweight flywheel which is harder to launch and feels "less torquey" as it really is carrying less momentum than the heavier combination. Hopefully that come out in a somewhat clear way.
