Default Dumb question

I know this is probably isn't a good place to ask this but if I descreen a MAF on a 97' Sierra would it throw the check engine light? My friend is really **** about his lights lol.

It shouldn't throw a light on any type of vehicle. I descreened a 5.3 work van, never any problems.

the reason for the screen is to straighten airflow so the maf sensor can provide an accurate reading. By removing the screen you can have turbulent air, the maf sensor can be less accurate in sensing the correct amount of air passing over it because it relies on the passing air cooling a heated wire. This in turn will cause the a/f ratio to be less than optimal. Sometimes it's enough to throw a check engine light. Lots of people have descreened the maf with no problems, but some people have had problems. If you need or want more airflow the ideal way is to get a larger throttle body.

Thanks, I know what I SHOULD do, but it's not my truck I would be doing it to. My friend wants cheap mods that'll help a little.

Of course, lmao. Little **** like air box mods and any "free" mods are fun to do. Usually because they're fun and easy and don't do much.
