what 5 spd transmissions bolt up to a sbc
hey!
im looking at building a sbc to put in a light weight 240z. i have everything, other then a 5 speed transmission. i love the 4 speed in my truck but i would love to have a 5 speed in the car. i am working on low money build, i know transmissions are not cheep, so i was wondering if i could steal one out of a junk yard.
so what im asking is what vehicles could i take a 5 speed out of and bolt up to my sbc bell housing, or take a trany and its bellhousing and boltup to my sbc?
thank you!

what 5 or 6 speed could i have that bolt up to a sbc? the tko are nice but they are a bit more then i think i would be able to spend now, i might save up and get one but theirs no way i could pay for it right now, is their a cheep trany that might last me a couple of years(5 or 6 speed). this is not going to be a strip car right now. i just want something that i would be able to spin the tires and have fun with for the time being.
thank you

I am swapping a LT T56 behind my gen 1 sbc.
Cheap if it is a 350. Pricier if it is a 383/400 due to flywheel.
Total I should be around 2k including trans, fly, clutch, pedals, shifter, driveshaft alteration and misc parts.

You could use a NZ3500, Thats the same transmission that was put in half ton chevys and dodge trucks. They are by no means bullet proof, but ive seen them have the crap beat out of them in half ton trucks. They are all over ebay for less than $500. Itg would last you a long time as long as you arent hooking up. My .02

Get a clutch, and flywheel for the same year truck the NV3500 came out of, unless it came out of an LS truck of course.
I think the T5 would not be a bad option for your setup. If you get a world class GM T5, you can use the Ford T5z gearset or other aftermarket gearsets are easily available to strength the trans. The T5 is badmouthed as weak, but in a lightweight car it shouldn't be a problem.

the 4.3 which came in the S10s is a 350 with two cylinders cut off.
heres a thread from the S10forum of a person wanting to mate a 350 to Nv3500

so now in intrested in the t56, so i have found t56 tranys out of mustangs, corvets, and a few out of srt 10 vipers. most of the corvett ones have no bell housings, the mustang and viper t56 are cheeper? can i use the viper and mustang one? and woud i just need to find a bell housing for the corvett t56? and if i could use the mustang t56 would i just need the clutch from it, that is if it will bolt up.
so what t56's can i use and witch ones can i not use. what year and etc.
thank you

T56 is the way to go. The LT1 93-97 camaro/firebird 6 speed is the one you want. Be patient and you can find them. I scored one for 400$ before. They are out there. See whole conversions for 1000$ or less.
If your motor is a 86 up 350, the LT1 flywheel is the same. Direct bolt on and go. Otherwise, there are conversions flywheels as mentioned and you are on the road. Just get ready to make the hydraulics work and you are good to go.
