Wink Blew up the 355 in the 77LT camaro!!

My brother was coming home from a long night of raceing and the motor went buh bye... It was a 355 with world sportsman 2 heads, edlebrock perfermor intake manifold and carb.. just the basic mild cam and not much more.. Out of no where he snapped the number 2 connecting rods and put three holes in the pan..lol... so it got towed home, i pulled the heads off and luckily the heads are ok.. so we talked for a little bit and came up with the new motor that is getting started tomorrow..

383 sb
.533/.555 cam from summit
world sportsmanll heads
domed pistons
eldlebrock performer intake
edlebrock 650 carb
3000 B&M stall converter
3.73 gears
sub frame connectors
Hooker long tubes
MSD wires

more stuff will probably come but thats it so far, should be ready in about a month in a half...

cool, but what are the advantages of dome pistons? i've always imagined flat-top was the way to go. but i'm still new to motor stuff.

They're probably a bad idea unless this beast runs on race gas, and I'm guessing it doesn't. Also, for a set compression ratio a DISH piston will make the best power- certainly not a dome.

Also, duration is more important than throwing out some lift numbers. That tells us nothing about the camshaft you have selected. I suggest you get a better carburetor and a better intake if you can swing it.

I'm thinking the cam he wants has 554/564 duration at .050, 114 lsa
(here:http://store.summitracing.com/partde...9&autoview=sku)

If your planning on running between 4k-7200, I'd recommend the following:
I'd get a higher stall, single plane intake (think victor jr), and at least a 750 carb. Those heads will be fine.
Give us more specifics on what you're planning on buying, and we'll point you in the right direction.

Also, if your not getting enough responses (and every1 just looks at the thread, but doesn't say anything) pm me, and I'll ask the guys over at nastyz28.

What goals do you have for your car to obtain? Such as daily driver or just racing?

That doesn't sound like a good combo at all IMHO.

That cam is junk, Dont get anything over a 110lsa for a sbc. I know they are cheap cams but you are leaving a lot of power by not getting a better cam,

Yeah, it was supposed to be 254/264....obvious typo

My cam has 110 LSA (rest of specs in my sig). It's still a cheap cam, but for what you're gonna want you'll want something with alot more lift and duration.

Cam in my sig woke my truck up a ton over the Comp cam XE274 it replaced. Sounds much meaner at all rpms from idle-6200. Go with a known cam manufacturer, get a performer RPM intake, and a Holley 650 dp.

In that case, you'll be able to get away with a more radical powerplant.
