Default question about slp cars or ss cars??????????

ok i have an 02 ss for sale and everybody is asking me if its a slp car, this may sound stupid but i thought slp takes a z28 from the factory gm plant and puts the options on it to make it a ss then ships it to the dealer kinda like saleen did to the gt mustang, is that how it works????? i know its a ss and not a fake one jim bo bob did in his back yard by just adding a spoiler and hood but is there a ss and then a slp ss? are there 2 different ss around? this is my v.i.n. if anyone can help please 2G1FP22G122167425

Dude, Just look at the inside of your passenger side door. If it has an SLP sticker that will tell you the options. Also it should have one on the drivers side with wheel and tire info. NO sticker, no SLP.

All SS's went to SLP............They are the ones who fit the hoods spoilers, catbacks and airboxs, the sticker on the P door just show additional options that were ordered..

if it doesnt have the slp sticker then it didnt go to slp. slp also changed the rear gears and exaust etc. other than appearance.

Not true.

That is true. The SSs that had additional SLP options above the standard SS package is what people are referring to as "SLP cars", and will have that extra sticker on the pass door. But ALL SSs went through SLP. When they were done w/ the car, it went back to GM's St. Therese for final prep before taking a ride to the dealership.

Ok, I think it went like this - ALL SS cars from '96 and '97 years went to SLP for hood, spoiler, etc. 98 and up SS cars were built in house and only went to SLP for additional options. That's why there are Base SS's and SLP SS's. Look for the RPO code WU8 and Y2Y on the door. If you only have WU8 it's a base SS if you have the Y2Y and WU8 you have an SLP car.

Mine is a base SS.

Just say yes. But true, only if there is a sticker on the passenger side door listing options.

I believe all SS’s went to SLP. Notice the paint color difference on the hood and spoiler, really noticeable on silver. Mine is not a SLP SS, but I did call them to get my build number.

TOTALLY INCORRECT!!! Every single solitry 1996 to 2002 SS Camaro EVER built went to SLP!!!!

SLP Installed ALL of the Hoods and Spoilers from 1996 until 2002 . . .

The WU8 RPO code shows it's an SS

In 98 or 99 the Y2Y RPO code started to show on the door jamb sticker for additional content such as rear end, wheels, exhaust air box, . . . These cars alos got an additional sticker in the passenger side door jamb indicating the added option.

i asked a 02 ss owner what slp options he had and he said it was not an slp ss and it had 3.08 rears. he said it was no different than a ta or z28 except rears and a couple of other things i cant remember. so i would like to know myself. for potencial ss buyers this would be good to know if there is a difference.

One good question for you guys. Did all the base SS's come with 3.23's in auto cars? My 2000 SS came with the stickers on the inside the door with the options and it had the 3.23's. But my 2002 SS convertible i got was the base SS i got the birth certificate and build #. Just wondering if it also got 3.23's. It did'nt have the stickers inside the doors.

You can a SLP SS. Then there is the second sticker option. Call SLP with your Vin# and they will tell you if SS then the second sticker option was added. You can look for this on the passenger door jamb

Then you can order a replacement option sticker from SLP like this

Well that guy is an idiot no Ls1's came with 3.08's. Again all SS's went to SLP they put on the hoods and spoilers. You could get more SLP options, there were a few differences. All firehawks went to SLP as did all SS's all WS6's went to ASC for there conversions.
