I went on the prowl again tonight. I have not found any decent action in a while. So I had given up and was heading home when lo and behold, an 03 Cobra. I couldn't get him to bite initially. He had a little hottie in the front seat so he was probably doing a little diplomacy. I finally hear him starting to do a little strategic gear selection.....so I do the same. We are in second doing about 35mph in probably the worst place to race on the planet.....but I couldn't resist. He hits it and I do too. We are frozen. I have to go to 3rd before him and don't loose any ground(clean shift). And then I hear him shift and it seemed he took a little more time than would be optimum(maybe not so clean shift) and I may have gained a little there. Anyway, that was about it....to the middle/top of third. Just too much traffic and exposure to the popo. Can't claim a kill or death here. It was pretty even and there really wasn't enough room to call it a race. But it was fun to finally get a little action. I did pull over and talked to him briefly. It had exhaust/chip/pulley....the standard stuff. He was going to the local watering hole with his chickie or I would have pushed him for more....probably should have anyway.

Yeah, it is still stock except the filter(Blackwing). Right after we ran, he braked hard and got into the left turn lane to go into the bar(Boondoggles....locals will know where that is). He may not have been inteerestied in seeing how his car did against mine with his chickie present. I would have gone again to get a better run. In any event, he was a cool guy and his car should have pulled me given the right conditions....but it didn't under these very limited ones.

Good race. Both cars run low 12's so I can see how you ended up neck and neck like that. Like you said though, you really can't call that a race. When you nailed it in 2nd you guys were probably fighting for traction. The top half of third gear is where both cars pull hard.

You mentioned that you shifted before he did. I wonder why. '03 Cobras like to be shifted right around 6,000rpm. Maybe he wound it out to much. I picked up 3 tenths at the track learning at what rpm to shift at.

Gearing most probably. And I shift as close to the redline(6600rpm) as possible. I don't know how quickly the Cobra raps out but the ZO6 goes thru the first 2 gears very quickly. Damn, I love a good race. And them Cobras certainly qualify as that. I really do like those cars. Chris, we still need to hook up. Need to just make it sometime during the week and then grab a beer or something. I am always so friggin' busy on the weekends. That is why I haven't made F&H lately.

Honestly, you'd be really disappointed with an '03 Cobra for the simple fact that the quality is terrible especially compared to a Z06. It's easy to mod though that's for sure.

Too bad you're so in Texas. We could have a few good runs. There aren't any Z06 owners around here that race.

If I had to guess(which I do) I would say around 3250-3000. Regardless of what Chevy posts as its weight, most people that have weighed their cars come in around 3080lbs. Not too bad. And, Unit, that would be cool but it would probably get expensive for me because I would feel the need to keep up.
