Default 99 trans am vs Roush 427

Hey guys I dont know much about these "427" mustangs but i got a chance to run one tonight, let me begin by saying it was a beautiful car. Ok i am not sure if This was a fluke or what but we were crusing down the highway going about 70ish and i dropped it in third and waited. We both hit it at the exact same time and were dead even. He would very slowly pull a foot or two and then both times i would then start to pull him and would finish a fender or so ahead. We had tto stop both time since we i had a car coming up in front of me. I would say the races were from about 75ish till 120 maybe. My car is a 99 trans am m6 with only headers, lid, x pipe with 3 in exhaust with no mufflers. Thats it. Should this of happened. I feel like if we had more room i would have pulled more.

first off nice kill. Umm i ll have to go look it up, but i think the 427 actually stood for the hp rating. but still he should have pulled you maybe. There was a big discussion on this. Ill find the link and post it, but if someone knows off of the top of their head, maybe they will post it.

yea, the 427 designates the hp rating, which is more than likely flywheel, pretty even then imo. although i really like the roush stangs, they were more or less built for looks and handling

Looks like you pulled a fender on a tuned n/a gt .3v tuned 5-speed or auto would be 13.1 to 12.70's no problem.

Nice looking cars, but the 427 is only a flywheel HP rating. Probably close to your rwhp #'s.

yeah it was a very good looking car, I looked up the times and they run low thirteens and high twelves and trap about 108. I have trapped 111 before. I would have thought they would have been faster by the way it looked. lol

Nice kill should be a pretty even race, which it was. Yes the "427" is the flywheeel rated HP.

Yeah I am not to impressed witht the 427R's. My buddy has one. Yeah they look ******* awsome but they are not impressive performance wise. From a dig we were side by side and he a tire after 120 before we shut down. From a roll he did not start pulling till 120ish. But now he has a 5.0 stroker and whipple and will be FAST!!! But I would not pay $40,000+ for it.

I'm not surprised at all at this. Perosnally, I htink your car has great cam timing from the factory. You put out some great numbers for your mods.

They have been 12.44@108. On drag radials a 12.20@109.

Should be very close to you in power and time.

A real tune and pulley would really wake those cars up.

they are not weak, but are heavy...all is relative. His car is probably 5-600 pounds heavier than you which would need at least 70 more to the tire to make up for that. Good Kill as are nice looking cars, but are pigs...actually no they are hogs.
