2002 Z06 vs GT500

Default 2002 Z06 vs GT500

SUMMARY: Crappy night at the midnight drags, on the way home beat a
GT500 with unknown mods, if any, by 1.5-2 cars from a 60mph roll to 140.

I was out at the drags last night trying to figure out how to drive my car. I finally pulled off a 12.9@113. Not to bad considering the 2.34 second 60' time that went with it and the granny shifting because I'm scared to death of breaking my car again. LOL.

But anyways on the way home at around 2am I ran across a GT500 and figured I'd try to get him to go a few runs. I spent like 5 minutes driving next to him gasing it before he even did anything. I was amazed it took that long considering the kid looked about my age, mid 20's, and he had a friend in the car that was eggin him on. I was about to give up trying when he down shifted and took off. FINALLY, GAME ON!

I wasn't able to get him to go any slower than 60 for the starts, I was really hoping I could get him to slow to 40. We raced about 4-5 times from 60 all the way up to 140 or so and by that time I was about 1.5-2 cars ahead of him. Those superchargers on those things are loud as hell. All I could hear was the blower whine. It was a great way to end the night.

On a side note. Why is it that whenever you seem to get in a good race no one has a video camera? I hate that!

Good kill! Yeah, those blowers are loud as hell. What happened at the track? The ET doesn't bother me as much as the mph...

With those mods I would def say that he had to have some mods. What power did you put down.

On a dyno dynamics dyno in socal I put down 457rwhp and 400tq. Oh I think I forgot to mention that the drags were in Utah and because of the heat, about 80+ degrees the DA was over 7,000'. I think that might have had something to do with the low MPH on the track.

An update on the GT500 I raced.

I ran into the guy a bit ago and I guess he recognized me. We got to talking about his car which he sold about a week after I beat him for a brand new GT 500.

The car I raced was making about 550 rwhp. Had mainly basic mods, ported blower, smaller pulley, bolt ons etc. Anyway I'm pretty stoked that I beat a car with almost 100rwhp on me. Gotta love the aero dymanics and the hp to weight ratio of these cars!!

a 450rwhp z06 is no joke...you have a good 800lbs advantage on him and the gears and dynamics must help. Sweet kill!! Your time clearly dont reflect your power!!! You can crack a 120mph pass on your setup!!

True - I went an 11.9 @ 121.4 with similar power at about 800' DA. Only downside is my LS6 clutch was starting to slip a little bit. Hoping for 123+ with a new clutch this year. I can't imagine running at 7000' DA!

Good kill, to bad you didnt have a camera, But ever time I have a camera ready on a race I get beat lol

I just noticed your running a 232-234 comp cam. How do you like it?

I have one sitting in my garage waiting to in my V.
Hows the drivabilty and etc?

Good kill OP! Im hopin to get my cam setup by this summer. I like your setup...but im sorry lol for not changing the clutch. Man what are you thinkin

Yah Like I know!!! GT500s SUX BIG TIME MAN! He should be embarrassed driving it around.

I bet he could sell it, find a used LT1 and mod it with the money he saved!!1one!1
nah, more like he should have saved his money and bought a new Z28 which will be sucking the paint off any GT500 very shortly

Now there's some bench racing. The Z28 doesn't even exist yet!

Good kill. I hate the 7000ft DA it is always like that were I live. If you see anything under 6000 its the best day of the year.
