2009 G8 GT vs. Cobalt SS TC Stage 1
This is the same Cobalt I raced last time when it was stock. The car now has a GM stage 1 kit, which is supposed to bring it from 260 hp to 280 hp. My car is all stock. Last time we both had a passenger, this time he had one, but I was alone. The last races were good for sure, but I was able to pull away decently in the G8 in all, but one of the races. The race that was closer, I was still able to pull a bit.
Tonight I got the call that the car had its first mods and they wanted to try them out, so I went out and met up with them. We got three good runs in. We were going to go from a 40 roll (lower wouldn't have worked with the fwd Cobalt on these cold roads) and the Cobalt was brake boosting.
The first run we started a bit lower than 40 mph and I was only around 3500rpm. Three honks and the Cobalt was able to jump out pretty good. I stopped the pull, but it pretty much just hung there to 100 mph. Good race, but they thought I might be able to pull back, so we went out again.
The second race we started at about 45mph, which put my rpm at a much better spot. Three honks and we left together again, but this time neither car pulled right away. We stayed even until about 85-90 mph, where I pulled away slowly (1 car maybe?). It seemed like they stopped my pull up top, but we let out at about 105-110 mph. They wanted to go again, stating that they think they might have been pulling back and wanted to wind it out a bit more.
We lined up a third time, starting at the same 45 mph. Three honks and we left together again. It looked like a mirror if the last run, with the cars hanging even until about 85-90 mph and then I pulled. This time we took it all the way to 130mph, with me still ahead. They said that at one point they stopped my pull, but then I started pulling away again, so I would guess that I won by 1.5ish car lengths.
I'm not sure how much that stage 1 kit goes for, but it definitely made a noticeable improvement over the last runs, especially when you consider that I was down about 150lbs this time without the passenger vs last time.
Very fun runs and a good time with some friends!

I gotta ask. How in the hell did you manage a 14 second pass with a 110mph trap? I've never seen a car above a 105mph trap finish in 14's - much less 110mph. That thing must have a ton of power and some pizza cutters putting it to the ground.

can't believe that they missed both the "2011" part and the fact you said "G8 GT" and in your sig it says "Mustang GT". Guess speed reading has its drawbacks, ehh?

nope.....the stage makes good power for the warrenty (which i like since i will put 18k on mine this year)
but the aftermarket tunes available are half the price and averaging a bit more hp (300hp to the wheels)
some which can be turned on/off with a button of your choice.
very tempting.

Thats how most BMW 335s are tuned as well.
