Default Who wins? 07 BMW 550i or 02WS6?

There is this guy at work who bought a 2007 550i about 2 months ago. He always brags about BMW being supreme to most other cars etc etc.

I like BMW's dont get me wrong, but I just want to destroy his car in a head to head from a dig. He has talked to me about running them from a dig, he knows I was looking around at getting a new car (WS6) he tried to refer me over to one of his dealer buddies to get an M3...

I almost did, but missed driving my WS6 from way back before it was totaled... and I couldn't resist but to try and find another.

I am close to finalizing a purchase on an 02 WS6 m6. The car has LT headers/ORY and GMMG catback with no cats. The seller says he also had it tuned and results were 348hp and 355 torque at the wheels.

This is an interesting matchup, those BMW's I think put down 360 hp/tqe and has some tiptronic set up transmission wise.

Who wins????

I have never seen a vid online ever with these two vehicles racing.

The new 550 is about as fast as the previous body (e39) m5 which is a damm qwk car.

Hopefully he meant that as an overall package (as opposed to specifics).

Anyway, as long as you can drive, I don't think he stands a chance.

My money's on the TA.

soon.

A buddy of mine has a 2009 BMW E60 535i with the tiptronic trans & a JB+ tune from Burger Tuning set at 90%. He also a V-Box (the GPS mechanism that the mags use to measure performance times). He pulled a best of 7.8 second 40-100 time (after multiple pulls). (He selects the starting gear & the car shifts for him the rest of the way).
I have an A4 LS1 with 2.73 gears (don't shoot me) and some bolt-ons. Unfortunately, I'm at the mercy of the auto-trans & the crappy base-model gears. For reference, I did a 7.98 second 40-100, but I only did two pulls. I'm sure that time will drop more and more after a few more runs.
Now, neither car is stock, but I think both have received about the same amount of increase in hp/tq compared to their stock trims. Depending at what roll we go from, it should be a dramatic race. From a dig or high roll though, I think my car's got him--even with the 2.73s and A4 trans.

With a manual trans, it'd be no contest. The TA would smoke it.

This belongs in the bench racing section.
I don't know why everyone would think a 4000lb sedan with 360 at the crank would beat a 348rwhp, 3500lb car though...
I know the M5 vs 550i video that someone mentioned. That's an E34 M5 in the video. That's the M5 with an I6 and 320hp.

Well, having raced two full bolton LS1 M6 cars making around the same power as yours, and having raced a a 545i and 550i I gotta say...

... The Beemer aint gonna be smiling afterwards. WS6 by 2 cars 40-100mph. More if he doesnt spin or it goes on longer.

bmw kills are nice. the types of bmw drivers who instigate races are usually the type to give you that signature "WTF just happened to my bmw-inflated ego?" look.

LOL I couldn't agree more. The only decent race I've had with a BMW in my Camaro was a new(er) M5. We pulled up next to him on the highway, I let him leave first and I pulled him in before 100. The sad thing is, my car has 150k miles, 2 passengers and a trunk full of suitcases. I posted this on bimmerforums (I owned an E36 at the time) and got flamed for days. "Well he didn't hit the "M" button. It adds 100 HP!" Hmmm... I have a button like that too. There's a lot of modded E46 M3s and new 335s around here that will give me a run though.

whooops! sorry guys, i'm still semi new to the forums. I will read the stickies next time before posting.

Anyways...JerseyMike...dude, I can't wait to see that video. Good luck when you run em.

From a dig it might be tough for me to get him, from a roll I'm pretty sure I should get at least 2 car lengths up to 120ish.

We shall see.

Does anyone know of any videos of 5 series BMW's vs LS1's??? I can't find any on Youtube at all??

You should beat the 550. Someone like me would be more of a challenge. 3500lbs and about 420-430 at the wheels with 93 octane and an 80/20 mix of meth/water.

eh no, you'd beat him, is yours auto? i've driven couple manual and auto modded 335i/xi and the auto felt faster to me off the line or rolling .... 335 are no joke, even the diesel one has fat torque and pretty quick

yeah OP you'd beat 550i, i've raced one with my ol' 98 ss, and it wasn't even a race for him...and to anyone who says 550 is close to e39 M5 performance-wise you gotta be kidding right...

6spd manual. When tuned above stock, with the manual trans there used to be some factory logic that would close the throttle on shift, boost would be lost (especially 3rd to 4th) and a huge lag to get the boost up again. Tuners have finally fixed that issue so you can hold 8-10PSI through the shift.

Or a Euro-flyby...I was driving home from work one night when this 7 series pulled up next to me at a light, but just far back enough so I couldn't look at the driver. As soon as the green light comes he jumps but I had felt something was up and went right after him. He had the lead but I pulled him in and edged him out. I started to slow down, he tried again but I still kept at least a half a car length on him. After I get some distance I shut down, just so he could fly by me at top speed; I then noticed the brand new Brecht-BMW dealer plates and realized this was probably a new 7 series.

I wish I could know how butt-hurt this fool was afterwards...A POS, 11 year old, bone stock Firebird with 2.73 gears and a rattle-canned WS6 hood outpaced his dealer fresh, high dollar Euro-barge.

I just wish I knew which 7 series it was. Must've been a 740 because anything higher than that pushes 400 horse...
