Eclipse GT vs Third gen
So im headed to school in my 88 trans am gta (ls1/t56/9") and I see this red Newer eclipse gt swerving in and out of traffic, then he got stuck behind a car that died at a stop light, he peeled out and was in front of me a little. As luck would have it I ended up right behind him at the stop light going out of town to the school. as soon as the light turned green he floored it, I could hear his tires squeel, I was still in first gear (had my drag radials on) and I switched lanes and had him a little into 2nd gear...I could tell the kid was mad, he wouldnt even look at me and immediatly turned off.
I was dissapointed, I thought they were a little faster than that. I used to work with a guy who had one, he thought it was the fastest car on the planet.

LS1 +3rd gen = Pretty evil
Even a stock LS1 in a 3rd gen will run some quick numbers, especially with gears and a good driver. I still can't get over that Iroc-z with the 6.0 on spray that some one has on here....

Just curious what did you make for power on your 6.0 combo? My bro is putting an LQ4 in an iroc and wants an idea of what a cam only set up will make. Granted the LQ4 has .5 less compression.

I have it torn down currently for some more mods soon I am looking at:
LQ4
Stage II 241 heads
2.02/1.60 stainless Manley valves
Manley Spring/titanium retainer kit
Manley pushrods
LS7 lifters
LS6 intake
LT headers
True duals
Torquer v2 cam
2800 stall
3.73 rear
etc. etc.
Should be around 400rwhp give or take.

You however, do know what I'm talking about. And yes, low 14s is surely a better "average" number.

Well, my exs boyfriend has an eclipse and I have smoked that thing about 80 times back and forth.
And funny you mention it. The last 3 weeks there have been 3 eclipses come out to the track and none have run high 13s/low 14s. The best time one got was a 14.8, but okay!

I never had it dyno'd when it was "working", but we estimated it to be around 350-370rwhp. Probably the lower number, for whatever reason they put a thick gasket on mine and I was running about 8.7:1 compression with a torquer V2 cam....that really makes for crappy numbers when you bleed off already low compression lol

Yea I love that. Isn't it nice having a car that has been looked down upon since they were made because of the "typical" derelicts that owned them, and the 4 cylinder like horsepower.....and then blowing someones doors off with an LS1 swap? LOL, puts a grin on my face just thinking about it.

I don't care what you saw at your track. When Car and Driver can run a 14.2 @ 101mph, it's a low 14s car.

If you're lining up against one on the street/track, you shouldn't be oblivious to what they CAN run. If I'm lining up against a stock 5.0 in my stock LS1 4th gen, I should know that I am going to lose. Even if I ran a 13.1 in my stock LS1 4th gen, and saw some tool run a 13.2 in his stock 5.0 at my local track. Not every driver is the same, so all you can really do is compare what you know the cars can do.
