Default LS1 Chevelle vs 99 Cobra

Cliffs at bottom

Well I was out logging with EFI live trying to diagnose an issue with the car dying near idle in the blistering heat (IAT temps hitting 110-130*) when I passed a red Mach 1 going the other way...turned around to pursue but long story short he never lined up.

So then at the next light I spot a silver new edge cobra. My girlfriend (mustang nut) recognized it as a local kid with a 99 who tells everyone it was a terminator but he took the blower off. IIRC it had cold air intake and I know for sure it had some kind of exhaust as it sounded sexy as hell and very loud. He had no passenger.

He turns a corner and punches it to see if I'm game, I do the same spinning through first but pulling up close behind him and had to let off. We get around a car in the left lane and I jump over.

We can't get any slower than a 70 roll...which sucked...he honked it off and thinking from the way I pulled up to him it would be an easy kill I didn't manually pull the car into 2nd .

We punch it perfectly even and I of course don't get a downshift so he pulls a quick car and slams a gear to put a fender between us. By this time I'm actually in the meat of 3rd so I stop the pull. We hold steady and I was just starting to pull back around 100 when he let off to prepare for his exit. He gave a thumbs up and ducked off.

I would feel worse if it weren't for the extra weight from my passenger and the **** in my trunk, also noticed looking at the log I was getting 2* knock retard which I doubt was enough to matter. **** walmart gas...

Good news is now next time I see him I can likely convince him to do a dig or low roll race for some gas money

CLIFFS: ls1 chevelle races lightly modded 99 n/a cobra 70-105, cobra pulls car and a fender at start and I don't start to get it back until near 100

damn...lotta views for no comment

experiment time:

I think the cobra had a '11 GT 5.0 Mustang engine swapped in, man are those things slow in the real world.

I think spelling "gay" as "ghey" is lame, too.

Nice run on the Mustang. What mods you go on your Chevelle? stock weight? Gearing? I would imagine a stock LS1 in a 3600-3800lb Chevelle would be a good race with a bolton late 90's Cobra.

mods are in my signature...should have been a slaughter from a stop or low roll, starting at the bottom of third killed me even with the stall it takes a bit to start pulling decent

I still don't think the car is doing what it should, dynoed 345rwhp sae unlocked but didn't do a locked pull.

Runs high 7.8s @ 88 mph in 2700-3000 da. At racewight of 3650-3700# I think it should be closer to 90mph but might be wrong.

street weight is ~3800# with me (a lot of tools, my sub box, extra parts in the trunk), then add another 115 for the lady

Actually your numbers sound spot on for a good running cam'd, FAST90, bolton LS1 at your weight, and racing with that high of a DA. ****, you will probably be in the high 11's at 114+mph if you run it on a 60deg day. Which is quicker than your average cam'd LS1 GTO that weighs the same.

The pic of you car brings back alot of memories, Many Many moons ago I used to have a 67 Chevelle with a 283 and a powerglide, and a 68 Chevelle with the 396 BB with a 4 speed, boy I miss those cars..

Anyways it sounds like had you been in second gear to start you would have been the victor, either way good run,

By the way who takes the blower off a Terminator????

Maybe, maybe not I'm not going to assume that...my car feels best punching from 50-55 or something low enough to get into the top of first (but then traction is an issue unless drag radials are on)

He was just messing with people I guess, my g/f saw him at Sonic a while back and it had the SVT plate on the engine with "1999" on it

She overheard him tell someone else he smacked a tree and got 03-04 bumpers as a pair already painted silver. She said something about different taillights and rear spoiler too.

First run I've had in a good while so it was fun. I want to catch him again from a lower speed

I plan on making some rounds tonight and this weekend.

I still need to find that pesky Mach 1, he's revved at me several times but then disappears by the time I turn around

well thinking about it again and looking at the log we were starting from 68mph, I'm going to experiment with some new shift tables

if I could have gotten into the top of 2nd (which runs out to nearly 90mph) I think it would have been better
