2002 Z28, Heads/Cam/100 Shot vs 1986 Grand National, 72mm Turbo
My friend has had his car for a few months now, but has been sorting out a couple minor issues. Now it's all straightened out and he was ready for a few fun runs.
My car is a heads/cam/100 shot 2002 Z28 M6. Making 422 rwhp 374 rwtq on motor and an estimated 520 rwhp 590 rwtq:
My friend's car is a 1986 Grand National that's was built up by the previous owner and slightly tweaked by my buddy. It has a built motor (heads/cam/etc), built trans/converter, beefed up rear with stock gearing, 72mm turbo making 27 psi with meth injection. The car put down 510 rwhp and 500 rwtq. The previous owner went 10.8 @ 124 mph with the car making less power (24 PSI).
PSM was riding shotgun, on camera duty. Keep in mind through these races that my friend has never had a turbo car before and was practicing brake boosting for the first time, so the start of the races is a little back and forth at times.
Here's us just messing around from 60 mph with me on motor:

Here's a 40 mph race with me on motor:

Here is a 40 roll with me spraying the 100 shot. I spun on the hit, but wasn't catching him or even stopping his pull really.

Next up we tried a dig run. I pedaled it through 1st gear and then hit the nitrous once I got into 2nd gear. As you can see, he had some traction problems , but he stayed in it and it made for a very awesome video!

After all that I wanted another shot from a 40 roll. For this last run, PSM jumped in the GN. I also did a burnout and had perfect traction. The bottle pressure was over 950 at the start and over 900 at the end of the race. This race was pretty much as good as it was going to get for me on this setup (at the end I stop his pull, but when I start coming back was after he let off due to a low meth light coming on)

It was an awesome morning of racing! We met up at 7:00 to get these runs in before traffic hit and it was very worth it. I think next time we will try to get out earlier (6:00-6:30), because even at 7:30 on a Sunday morning, it was starting to pick up more than I would have liked. We'll definitely get some more runs in and definitely a few rematches on that dig run, lol. I was very impressed with his car and he was definitely happy with how it performed. Also, at some point we will be lining the GN up against PSM's GSXR 600

Filming that dig run was one of the highlights of my life. I've never seen smoke pour off tires like that on the street for that long in an actual race (not even the burnout before the race ).
That GN impressed the hell out of me. He must be VERY happy with it now that it's setup right. I'm looking forward to the runs with the bike but I'm honestly not sure if I'll hang. That thing is just nasty.

Thanks guys!
The GN was tuned and dynoed with the meth in the last few weeks, making I believe 26 psi. This morning he said it was in the 27-28 range so it was probably making a bit more than the dyno sheets showed. I don't know what kind of dyno those numbers were on or what the correction factor was, if any.
I know that he is only running a 2.5" exhaust and the guy that tuned it for him said that it was holding him back quite a bit. Also, my friend is thinking about upgrading to a ball bearing turbo. The guy that tuned it was telling him that with a smaller 67mm ball bearing turbo and the right exhaust with a matched converter would probably put him in the 600+ rwhp range with alot less lag.
Either way, it runs strong as hell!

All I have to say is bad ***! I wish I was there. Grand Nationals are such awesome cars. I'd say your car did pretty well all things considered. I wanted to come out but I have been soooo lazy today after a long night at Mohegan haha. Next time I'll be there.

For now, I think he's just happy to have a car that's running well and walked out on SRZ's H/C/Nitrous LS1 from a roll.
