A REAL bike kill .... Pics
So I don't post here much but I do read a lot of the post, and this seems to be a big issue so I thought I would post mine.
I was riding down an empty 2 lane on my way back to the states (vacay in mexico) just minding my own business its about a 45 mile ride so I was in the slow lane doin about 80 with a passenger and back seat full of groceries (weight with just me and same passenger is 3910 so I was easy 4100) when I check out my rear view and up comes 2 bikes, can't make them out but they were coming up on me pretty good. Both of them merge over to pass me and neither guy even give me or the car a look. So I was kinda thrown off by this and decided I would just pace them for a bit. They were doing close to 90 but as I said before there are no other cars on this highway, a divider and woods on both sides.
Well we ride like that for a good mile before either of them look at me. By this time I see that both of the bikes are really old and will likely not prove to be any competition one was an old ninja and had a little dude on it and the other was a really old (think 80's here like top gun) Suzuki 600 but it was the only thing doing so I gave it a chance.
The guy on the old zuki gave it a few clutch in revs off the limiter and I downshifted to around 4300 in 4th which is a great spot for me with the 3.73's so when he lets the clutch back out and punches it (don't think he downshifted) I gave him just a sec and railed the throttle and immediately started counting the cars between us. I ran it up to about 110 guessing we started at 85 or so and crammed on the breaks hoping his friend would want next.
So I slow back down and let them get back beside me, this time we are going a little faster im at about 4700rpm and I hear him downshift and see him crouch down all serious and look at me so I give him the nod and he punches it, honestly the bike didn't look to be gaining any ground so I know the guy thought I hit it too and he was keeping up this time but after I heard the revs go up I just jabbed the gas and again walked hard. We both gave thumbs up and that was it.
I was hoping the guy on the ninja would give it a go as I know that's a faster bike but later when we came into the next town I got beside them at a light and the guy on the zuke flipped his helmet up and said "You whopped my ***, but I made black smoke come from your exhaust" I started laughing as im use to that in a turbo car. I snapped a few pics of the bikes at the light so people will see what im talking about, no big surprise I won.

Yeah, I ride with a large group a few times a month and I still understand those mohawks. I get the attitude behind them but I find them for the kind of riders that give the rest of us a bad name. Bikes are inherently fast and agile but there are times to have fun on one and times to respect them.
Anyways, solid runs. What part of mexico were you visiting?

Man I wish I knew my bikes! I dig raced against one with 120lb driver, he gave me 3-4 bike lengths for the start and I had him by a good car length behind me until I went to throw it in 2nd and got locked out with my clutch stuck to the floor-I would've beat him BAD. We raced again and he smoked me by like 3-4 bike lengths in a 1/4 mile. Granted, I did a weak launch and granny shifted the 2nd race.
Good kill op, not trying to thread jack, just sharing stories!

Kudos on the older bike kill. Though that ninja looks more like a 90's era. And it was lowered, with swingarm extensions, and what looks like a bigger than stock sprocket: in other words, the guy had a drag bike which should mean he can ride.

A 600 Katana will top out around 130 and run low 12s to high 11s with a really good rider.
With your mods you probably would have given the Ninja a good run as well. I ride a GSXR750, and know that there are cars out there that will walk me above 60.
I'm pretty sure my 02 Z28 would've walked my bike when it was boosted.
I've got an SV650 that's just an embarrassment. I got walked by many cars. A stockish 200x Mustang from a 75 roll, a C5 from the line. I did stay with a Boxster S around 80 though.

The dropped and stretched 90's ninja w/ dumped exhaust would have been a much better race. It looks like its a zx-9r - rare bike, and was crazy fast in its day but modern literbikes destroy them in every facet of racing from handling, braking, and acceleration. Bikes have come a LONG way since the mid 90s...
The Katana isn't worth the time - its a good commuter, but its slow and def not a crotch rocket.

Um not to be a dick casue im new to this forum but my Katana 01' GSXF 600 with a cam exaust and jetted carbs( I didnt do any of the work i bought it like this) maxed out at 156 on the interstate. Thats what the speeding ticket said when the guy i bought it from showed me...
Sorry to steal the thread, but thats my .02 on the katana. That must be a stock bike also...I ran a 10.65 @ 128 at julesburg colorado last summer when i rode it their...

[QUOTE=k_cash1432;13836400] What gearing and size shot? Stretched and lowered as well?
I run within 4mph of that, at sea level, with a lot more power and a lighter raceweight. My trap was already considered on the high side for a bolt-on zx6r too...that must be a 600 katana record.
I've never seen a katana trap near 130. They only make like 75hp and weigh like 40lbs more then a modern 600(40lbs is a ton of weight for a bike). Stock trap is usually under 110mph for them...I find it hard to imaging that you are cutting two full seconds and gaining 20mph from cams and re-jetting, unless your bike is drag prepped and you are spraying.

Totally agreed. Those katana's are slow, a jet kit isn't enough to make up for the lower compression and much smaller cams they came with. Maybe the previous owner swapped the engine with a GSXR and did some engine work, too? A radar verified 156mph is also wayyyy higher than they can do anywhere near stock. Would have to have another 40rwhp to pull that off IMO.
