Witnessed: GTO vs 11 5.0
LS2 GTO:Auto, K&N intake, Cat-back exhaust.
2011 5.0: Manual, stock.
I was pumping gas and I see a black GTO and a blue 5.0 line up at a redlight then I started thinking man that would probably be a good race to see! Right after that the light went green and they both took off.. The GTO jumped out almost 2 cars on the 5.0! I was shocked because the 5.0 didnt spin much at all, and from what I could tell it stayed about like that untill they shut down. About two hours later I was getting out of my car at walmart and I ran into the guy with GTO ( Ive met him before and didnt even realize it) I told him i saw the race and he said " Yea it was a good run, I let off at 100 when he started to slowly catch up haha"
- Anyways I know its not much of a kill considering I wasnt in the race, but Im bored and figured I would post up anyways!

I have heard there are a lot of nannies on the new 5.0s. I'm thinking that may be why the gto got such a big jump, or he was sleepin, or just couldn't drive a stick well. To many variables, but it says something about the new 5.0s that it was catching up in higher mphs

- And no the GTO didnt have a stall, it was all stock with just intake, catback and heavy black rims lol

They perform very well in my opinion. I raced a brand new bone stock automatic 5.0 in a heads up run in 2700' DA last month in Shreveport. The thing went 13.0 @ 110 mph. That is very good for an auto car in bad air. I bet a converter only 5.0 can go 12.00 to 12.2 in great air with sticky tires.

Converter isnt going to do much at all for a stock 5.0 GT. They already come with somewhere between a 2300-2600 stall from the factory, and with a 6 spd transmission there just wouldn't be much a converter could help with. Now a tune to give them full power without computer nannies kicking in? Yeah, THAT will do the trick... with a stall... and full exhaust... then a cam upgrade... THEN you are solid 11's without having to worry about DA #'s.
Oh and you always have to worry about the DA.

Converter alone in a stock. 5.0 will help at a minimum 3 to 4 tenths with sticky tires. The part about it having a 6 speed trans not benefiting the 60ft times is bogus because they have a low 1st gear which is designed to get the car moving and a stall would only help it more. Lets just say someone were to put a stall in one it would most likely be a 3500... how would that not help it get the 60ft times down. The new 5.0 can easily be an 11sec car with a stall, tune, gears and tires, The cams are not really needed to make the car 11sec worthy because it is a dual overhead cam and they can be tuned separately with the new sct software and in conjunction with the VCT. I was at the track when jason ran the new 5.0 and the guy was cutting terrible 60's and had 18's on the car and was a fully loaded model so im sure it isn't as heavy as the GTO but a stock GTO to a stock 5.0 if both guys can drive would be a good race to see but im afraid the favor is not of the GTO.

Not much, in fact not much at all. Its a mod motor, cams arent going to make or break it. In fact with terminators the only time i heard of one being cammed it ran for GT cams lol But the cost for swapping all four cams is rather high, and really not worth it in 99% of cases.

"The 2011 Mustang 5.0L pre-loaded tune files add up to 28 Rear Wheel Horsepower & 34ft-lbs of Torque to the automatic transmission equipped Mustang, and a tire shredding 32 Rear Wheel Horsepower & 31ft-lbs of Torque to the 6 speed manual transmission vehicles. SCT's new 2011 Mustang 5.0L pre-loaded tune files also increase throttle response, shift firmness and remove the Mustang's Top Speed and RPM Rev limiter, allowing maximum performance from your 2011 Mustang GT."
keep in mine this is not a custom tune, this is just a handheld tune.
