Default Took down a Duramax

Figured I'd post since its only the second run I've had this year. A guy at work wanted to set something with his 07 ? Duramax Silverado. I knew it'd be a win but wasn't sure how close. He has exhaust, CAI, and a tune that is supposed to add "150 rwhp". Thought another coworker in a 09 WRX was going to join in on the fun but he turned off before the road opened up. I already put a few cars on him last year anyway.

So didn't really get any clean highway runs in with the truck so went to a back road and lined up for a dig. Honked it off, I spun got out of it, spun a little more and by then he had about a 1/2 truck length on me (sounded like he spun some as well), I finally hooked and put a bus length + on him before I shut it down at 120.

So pretty much the outcome I expected, but I'll take what I can get (I'm either in my beater when I see cars that might want to run or they are headed the other way on the highway when I'm in the Camaro). I gotta say the truck sounded pretty good with the exhuast mixed in with its whistle when he did a fly by.

some diesels will move out. its not the horsepower with them its the torque. with a intake exhaust and tune like he has i bet he is in the ballpark of 700 or more trq at the wheels. he should have put it in 4wd and brake boosted it. i nail some nasty (for a 8k lb truck) launches, usually put a couple lengths on em right there, then they gotta play catch up.

diesel engines are retarded heavy, and a boosted ls1 will make more whp. and imagine how frustrating it would be to have to shift at 4-4500 rpms

I got pulled by 2 car lengths on the interstate one night by a Dode Ram diesel from 60-120. My TA puts down 360rwhp. Some of those trucks can be beasts.

I was hoping the wrx would follow as I thought it could be a good race for th duramax. The guy is planning on getting a built tranny next year and turning up the boost a bit so might have to do a rematch then.

yeah, i did but after the conversion they weigh a lot, like 4400lbs or something, and still only run low 13's. its a interesting swap, and great MPG's but not super fast or anything.

So guess now I know I have the fastest street car at work. There's also a LS1 SS that would be second quickest. One guy has a big block supercharged 69 Chevelle SS that runs low 10s, but he's only driven it once to work.

I don't know why everyone is talking **** on the duramax, there are plenty stock engine/stock turbo duramax in the 12s. All you need is a built tranny, more fuel, and an aggressive tune.

I don't even bring my car to work, my truck is faster than 90% of my buddies cars, except their "track only" 5.slows.

fully dressed dmax weighs about 400 ish more pounds than ls1, for around 500 hp and 1000 lb torque with tune, intake, exhaust, id say makes for a fun car..

Yep and thats still a safe tune on a stock engine. Lets not even get into built engines that can turn 7k rpm.

Stall converter with transgo, any POS programmer, egt gauge, sleeved front end,Diamon Eye down pipe, turbo back big exhaust and you have an easy high 12 second truck(06 LBZ) even if its a 4 door. EFI live,cp3 pump upgrade,Banks scoup for intake and a upgraded turbo easy low to mid 12s and you can still tow with it. Not bad.

Nice kill OP

if you see a black crew cab duramax with a Fleece Performance decal on the back window, give me a wave. I'll play with ya (since a couple of ya are in IL)

I don't mind losing, but it's always fun to see what other vehicles can do

my sig has a little info should be a mid-high 12sec truck with all stock internals
