1994 Camaro LT1 vs 2005 "Modded" Mustang GT
This torch red, sweet sounding "modded" Mustang GT with torque thrust black rims has been coming to the meets a few times. I had an eye on it from the first time I saw it.
I asked a few guys about what he's got and they said "ah he'll smoke your *** dude, he's modded!" in which I'd reply "I'd still race him for the kicks."
Last night I finally got the chance. Surrounded by everyone, camera recording everything as it happened. I asked for a 20mph roll (I got no tires left...or rear end for that matter lol). My bud wanted to drive so I let him.
20 roll, I looked at our speedo it's showing 15, Mustang honks, 1, 2, 3 and we fall back into our seats. We both chirp into second. Half way through the race I said "holy **** we smoked him" and held on to my dear life for the rest of the race.
We stopped at the end of the road and turned around. We stopped next to each other. Before my bud could say anything, the Stang guy, one hand on 12 oclock position and the other on chin, said in a nonchalant manner:
"You got me."

I don't know what "smoked" means but if it wasn't even close, that is one horrible driver. It should have been a close race.
I raced several bolt on 3v's when i had your mods+longtubes/nocats and it was descent, they always fell on their face after 2nd gear. Never got to race one with equal mods.
Obviously you won, so good kill. Well put together story.

Lesson learned the hard way when he did 2 massive burnouts in my car to impress a bunch of dudes.
He's my boy though, and one helluva driver. He drifts so good he puts Ken Block to shame. Even with FWD.
Thanks man, "smoked" is a slang term we use here in California (maybe a popular term in other regions too but I'm not sure where). It means winning a race by a large margin.

Since I'm from Sacramento I know what 'Smoked' means: however it is a vague term and open to interpretation: 1 car length? 5? Maybe a hard earned fender win?
A '05+ Mustang should walk a LT1. Period. And your mods don't sound like enough to make the difference IMO. Regardless you won and thats all that matters! Just don't be surprised if the next time you come across a intake/exhaust '05+ GT that the outcome is different.

Drive your own **** and race your own races. Unless he was talking smack about your vehicle in particular, it's supposed to be YOU versus HIM In My Opinion (we abbreviate it to 'IMO' up here in Seattle- maybe a popular term in other regiions too but I'm not sure where).

You sure it wasn't a modded V6?
But in all honesty, nice kill. I don't think mine would have had any problem with a bolt on LT1 but a driver makes a car, and you were clearly better at it than him.
And Chavez885, my mustang pulls damn good all the way to 140 mph. The 3V motors with the variable cam timing are awesome at any RPM. Maybe the few you raced had the crap 3.31 gears. I've got 3.55's and even those are on the low side but still pull awesome.

Good kill!
A 3v "modded" sounds like a good match for a lightly modded LT1. But then again, I've ate my fair share of modded 3v's in my day. Too bad the new Coyotes eat me.. Time for heads/cam

BUT, they are old school and slow compared to whats out now. Hell, there's half a dozen import V6 econobox FWD sedans out that put down better 1/4 mile times. They are a SBC with decent heads and a decent fuel injection setup. I just get annoyed when people keep insisting that they are in the same league as a LS1, 2, 3: they are not. Period. And the newer 3 valve Mustangs -which I've raced ALOT of- are fairly quick stock and near stock- somewhere between a LT1 Z28 and a LS1 Z28 IMO.

So you wanted to run him but let your "dude" race him; why? I'd like to know how many cars you pulled on him though. Coulda been a auto with loudmouths and everyone thinks since you can hear him two blocks away it's modded.

IMHO, going off the vid of you and that G8 I think a healthy bolt on LT1 would have no problem with you. It probably be pretty ugly to tell you the truth.

Hate LT1's? No, not even close. I practically worshipped them when they first came out. Nearly bought 1 a few times, and my friends all had them in various forms from vette to Z28 to Imp SS. I'm friends with Ellis whose LT1 will wipe the floor with the vast majority of built LSx cars out there.

Don't let the street talk fool you. I'm not stupid. I know LT1s are dirt cheap, make a nice sound and throw you back in your seat like no other car, and I know that's all they got. They have the fun factor down right on but look for reliable monstrous performance elsewhere. I know this guy with a 2007 Lexus ES V6 who kept up with me.
I realize LS1 is the better engine; I've practically worshiped it since it came out. I'm saving up to buy one.
And I don't care if you're from Idaho or Sacramento, you dunno what smoked means bro. It means at least 2,3 car lengths. Calling a fender win "smoked" is like calling an ugly ***** "drop-dead gorgeous"; it just doesn't deserve it.
The "modded" Mustang had apparently beat a few people before, so that's why everyone thought it'd beat me too. I think his car does better from a dig.

Well to be fair Amir, I am a bit of a dick. "Boisterous" is how I refer to it- it just sounds better to me.
Mustang always do launch really hard btw: Ford always emphasized it when they design them.

G8 ran a 13.5 bone stock and so did I. With tires I am positive I could have done a 13.2. Tell me how many LT1's can knock off a 13.2 at around 104 with mild bolt ons? I don't know much about them but I do know that there have been a few bolt on LT1's at the local track in the low 14's at around 97 mph. Might be able to get a high 13 out of it at that mph.

MotorWeek, '96 LT1 SS. Crappy 14.0 @ 104mph at 1:34. FWIW Car and Driver went 13.5 @ 106 in their tester, GMHTP 13.x @ 106. Muscle Car Review holds the LT1 record at 13.3 @ 107 in a '96 SS.

If there were (and I quote), "Surrounded by everyone, camera recording everything as it happened," where are the videos?
Probably because the OP can't drive for **** and didn't want to get embarassed.
Doubtful. ~300rwhp @4000lbs vs ~250rwhp @ 3400ish lbs would be a pretty good race.
I did, pretty damn . I am gonna go off on a limb and say he comes from ricer decent.

Oh, and FWIW I drove a 3v 5 speed the other day and it feels a little bit stronger up top than my friends 96 WS6 (M6, longtubes, true duals).
I think next week sometime I will go find a stock 3v auto and race it against a friends stock LT1 auto. Should make for an interesting race.
