Thumbs up SS vs C5 Corvette

So I decided to take my car for a spin to see if I could still hear a ticking noise. I got gas in the next city over and got back on the freeway to go home. As I'm on the freeway I see a black Corvette which looked to have after market wheels. I thought it was my friends ZO6 at first as I was pulling up. I noticed it wasn't my friend so I slowly drove past him around 70mph. As I drove by him and his wife I could see they were staring at me and when I looked in my side view I could see they were laughing probably talking about racing me.

Sure enough he tries a fly by and I follow. We were trying to find an opening and after about a mile we get a big open stretch. He pulls up next to me and I motion for him to go. My nose is at his front tire and he hits it. When I hit it I pull pretty good and I let out in the beginning of 4th or mid 4th and I had 2-2.5 car lengths on him. We both exited, but he went to the gas station and I went home. I'm guessing he was stock. First run for me in a while...

I had a similar experience my self.So far the most up to date vette i raced was a c5 (sad i know).I instigated it "sometimes you just have to be that guy",dude was in his late 30s car seemed stock.I passed by him at 80 slowed down and started revvin at him so he takes the hit from 65/70 mph ,I follow suit and get about 2 car lengths in front and then he shut down!better than nothing i guess.Either way Good kill .Seems it's easier to run into a deer on the freeway than find someone in a new vette that want's 2 race!No offense vette guys!

are these vettes autos or what? i thought the weight and gearing makes them stock as quick as a f body with boltons

There isn't much difference in weight, like ~200lbs or less in my case. Could be a couple of different choices for gears though.

The one I ran today was a manual trans. By the way before I did LT's I ran a pewter C5(M6). I had a passenger and he was alone. We ran twice and the 1st run I got him and the 2nd run he hit it when I was at his rear bumper and I slightly started to reel him in at the top of fourth, but we let off and he got me by a 1/2 car.

It's true. I've tried to run a few vettes, but it's hard to find vette owners that want to play.

yeah, over here vette owners just look at you like your crazy if i even blip my gas at them. but then again im the one to get flicked off by everyone i pass, even if they instigate the race, so who knows.

Defiantly not. I am sure it was a Auto C5, beings the guy was old. But a stock C5 will get walked by a bolt on F-Body.

Good kill!

A stock c5 manual or auto will lose to a bolt on F-body although a manual c5 will deifnitely be more competiton but will still get walked.

Gearing for the auto is 2.73s stock or 3.15s are optional. A stock c5 manual is much faster than a stock c5 auto with all those dead spots in the auto tranny. a C5 manual can trap 110-111 with a good driver. All manual c5s has 3.42s mn6 transmissions except for the c5z which is also 3.42s but because of the mn12 transmission its geared way higher than a base c5 manual transmission so its equivalent of putting 3.90s into a base Vette or a F-body.

As far weight goes it depends on options and rather its a coupe or a 99-2000 fixed roof coupe (frc). Most frc's are high 31** to real low 32**. Some base C5s coupes can be in the 31** range also and max out at 3246 pds. Many c5 ppl have weighed their car and alot do seem to be in the 31** range or low low 32**. Many ppl with the c5z also weigh their car and alot of owners say its mid to high 30** range. Ill say on average its usally anywhere from about 220 pds to almost 300 pounds lighter than an F-body depending on options.

Check the weights out on these c5 coupes. Just 2 quick links i found right quick.

Nice kill. It's funny how the C5 Vettes look so dated to me now that the C6's have been out for so long. A couple years ago I thought they looked totally badass. I'd still pickup a C5 Z06 any day of the week, though, and even a regular C5 M6 if the mods weren't so damn expensive for them since they're getting cheaper to pickup.

Yes, he's mine. He ran away in 2007 though and I haven't been able to find him since. He ran away on the day that Rampage beat Chuck's *** for the 2nd time.

An auto C5 only has the advantage at higher speeds 80+.
