I am still confident most new Mustangs will get walked by a bolt on LS1, guess doing a cam is the next logical step to keeping up with the bolt-on coyotes...

It's the overall gearing that supposedly falls between the 3.55 and 3.73s.

I'd agree the 10hp means nothing(though I've seen different numbers, showing a bigger gap), it's more because the shifts are quicker... I don't see applying power between shifts. In a sense, I guess it could seem like it, but to do that would almost require burning clutches.
If the fluid is low or bad, yes, the clutches would burn.

I can't see that... Those two transmissions aren't that far off from each other. The auto is lower, but not all that much, except 1st gear. The others are somewhere under .20 different, which makes me think the auto w/ 3.15 gearing would be about the same as a manual with 3.31's. The ease of operation makes a nice difference. Of course, the auto is about 50 lb heavier than manual, so that isn't helpful in acceleration.

That's any automatic. I'm saying I don't see any real diff from the past to present in shifting aside from how quick and how smooth while being quick... Full power is applied, just not to the ground during a shift. At some point, somethin's gotta give... Unless it's one of those variable transmissions, which to me means, "at ALL points!"

I haven't been able to find the numbers yet, but you need to take the ratio of each gear multiplied by the final drive to see the overall gearing and compare that way. The comparison came from a former Fbody & GTO owner.

The fluid is for the cooling of the transmission as well so depending upon the transmission and engine tune, a good portion of power is constantly applied. It's what it does, power is still applied.

2011 Ford Mustang GT Technical Specifications

Transmission
Standard six-speed manual gear ratios
1st 3.66
2nd 2.43
3rd 1.69
4th 1.32
5th 1.00
6th 0.65
Final drive 3.31:1

Optional six-speed automatic gear ratios
1st 4.17
2nd 2.34
3rd 1.52
4th 1.14
5th 0.87
6th 0.69
Final drive 3.15:1

If I did this correctly(and I may not have), it seems the auto has a higher ratio, except 1st and 6th. I considered adding all the details, but didn't wanna clutter things up, plus, as I said, I may have done it wrong and I don't wanna add more unecessary incorrect info to the net... bad enough as is.

The V6 is different, if anyone cares, but still seem close. Those get standard 2.73's with 3.31's available with the performance package.

I dont know a whole lot about tech stuff when it comes to cars but he did give me a ride in it and that thing pulls hard. Even when it shifts into the next gear it still pulls. I just didnt like the way how the tranny would kick down during normal driving and not having paddle shifters. Then again in most cases just dropping the lever down to 2nd or 3rd is the way to do it and paddle shifters doesnt really do much other then maybe add some excitment, like its a manual.

Good job. Sorry, too busy, just multiply each ratio by the final drive for the overall gearing and compare the numbers in each gear.

around my buddy's shop it appears the hot ticket in rear gears for '11 A6 Gt's are 3.73's take that for what it's worth?? .3 and better i have yet to witness this so i'm somewhat skeptical because i would think that 3.73's in an A6 makes 1st and 2nd like at least 4.56's, overkill in a stock/tuned car no?

it WOULD be overkill if a tuned 5.0 didnt rev past 7000rpm

still i can imagine it being tough to launch since the 5.0 puts down good torque (somewhere between LS1 and LS2 type tq numbers to the wheels)

LOL was that supposed to be your "good kill" to him before you slapped his face?

Who says that kinda ****? Dude, read your own posts, do some reflection on your attitude and take your exhaust only 12 second *** down a notch.

i was going to say something but thought maybe he ran into a bad driver maybe, as for me even if i had good traction i would doubt very much that i could beat the same car by 5-7 lengths. These 5.0's are fast with even a decent driver it will put up an excellent fight if not beat the crap out of me. This particular 5.0 did excellent and it was bone stock, cant take anything away from it at all. In the end a fully bolt on z28 was barely able to maybe edge out the race or keep up. In the end i have respect for anything thats fast and atleast my own opinion even though i didnt get pulled on to me this race was a loss, ford did a great job. I need more mods to beat a faster car.

I thought they came with 3.73's? the hot set up down in Texas is 4.10-4.30's!

Headers, tune, and a little weight reduction....maybe a drag radial.

Oh, and the driver mod.

(ok and the connecting pipes for the headers before this starts another fight)
