Default 98 Z28 vs 03 SVT Lightning

My Mods: Bolt-Ons, see sig.

2003 Ford SVT Lightning: Catback, Intake, Pulley, Throttle Body, Chip

Met up last night with a few of my friends. My buddy Johnny showed up with his Lightningand wanted to race, so we took it onto the 30 Bypass late at night with no traffic. He took one passenger i took two passengers. We went from a first gear roll at 25 to the top of 4th gear. Every time i shifted i'd gain a little bit, and halfway through each gear he'd pull a little but then at the top of each gear i'd pull again. By the top of 4th gear i was roughly a car ahead. Definitely the closest race ive had yet. For a heavy *** truck....DAMN. I'd take one haha

Good job, for some reason I always love racing against those Lightnings.

There's nearly always low to mid 12 second Lightnings in every small city or big town you come across in the US. Guys take care of them better then they take care of there girlfriends probably! Hell, out of the 6 or so I see every month I've yet to see one that was beat up or even running stock rims, exhaust, etc. Them guys mod there **** even more than the '03'-'04 Cobra guys.

So you ran a guy named Johnny, who has a Lightning, and your location is Pennsylvania?

Coincidence?

You're a cam or 100 shot away from not worrying about him anymore

Yeah I definitely felt the extra weight holding me back for sure!

And yeah his car is black and gorgeous and got it pretty cheap too. I was a bit jealous of him haha.

As for the coincidence, it is just that. He is an Asian kid named Johnny Nguyen (pronounced WIN ironically lol) and he lives down the road from me. If you read some of my other kill stories, he is the owner of the civic hatch with the built K20 that I beat as well. All of our races are very close. However that race against his civic I had a bad fuel pump I should have crushed him.

As for the cam and nitrous, my engine has 143k miles on it and I don't think could handle it. My long term goal is for a Fab 9 rear, Viper Spec T56, and a procharged 383 stroker

Your car can handle it, don't be scared!

I'm just tryin to preserve it as best I can so when I have a great block to build a 383 stroker that can handle a decent amount of boost haha. I'm 20 years old, 21 in September, and I think 355rwhp is more than enough for me at the present time. Don't want to get ahead of myself and f*** up haha

Lightnings are impressive. Too bad they're ugly. I'd rather have an SRT-10. Good kill OP.

Thats's the first time I've seen them referred to as "ugly." Good run OP! Lightnings are sweet and they can run on the highway with the right mods. I enjoyed the hell out of mine.

I think 4th gen Camaros are ugly too though. No offense. I respect the performance Lightnings and Camaros have. I just think Trans Ams and Cobras look better in the same performance/price catagory.

What? He had two passengers and the heavy *** lightning had one. If neither had passengers the outcome would probably be similar.

Good kill OP.

No offense taken, I would 100% take a 4th gen trans am over a 4th gen camaro, they look SO much better. But hey, my dad bought this camaro brand new in 97 with 10 miles on it, and i bought it off him for a very good price. So i benefit knowing every little detail about this car's life, and can deal with having the less attractive of the 4th gen fbodys....although i wish he had bought a TA rather than a camaro to begin with....lol. As for the cobras, i'm not the greatest fan of the looks of the pre-2003 cobras, just not good enough to overcome thats its still a mustang. However, the 03-04 cobras....sexy as hell and with the power they are packing bone stock, and can make with minor mods, gets me saying f*** it give me that ford haha.

I have to say that your statement doesn't make much sense...If we each lost our passengers that would have given me an additional 170ish pound advantage over the lightning. Thats more than enough for a noticable increase in performance, allowing me to gain a significant amount by the end of the race.
