Not to hi-jack the thread, but was it the tune that caused the #8 piston damage?
I read on another site that a sign of too aggressive of a tune on the 2011+ was #8 piston damage.

They have hundreds of cars running the same tune I was running so like I said I can not be sure.
Here is a good long thread that has pages and pages of discussion on the failure. It is a good read.

Yeah. I had random missfire code on and off for about a month. Then one day it just stayed on.
Ford is covering it. But they did tell me that if ford engineer shows up to look at the car I might be paying for the motor out of pocket. Good thing he never did! I love my home town dealership hahaha! These service rep was like what the hell is the point of buying a car like this if you cant drive the **** out of it.
With the code on I still ran a 12.2@110 I think I could have clicked off an 11 second pass that run if it was running right hahaha.

2000SS1979 a friend of mine had a 2011 mustang 5.0 with 6000 miles on it. It had full bolt ons and a tune and he blew a hole in a piston as well. I think he was the first one in the country to blow his motor.
After a lot of fighting Ford finally gave him a new long block and took away his warranty.
He sold the car after having a lot of problems with it. He is now in a Terminator cobra.

I had the misfire code and they did all kinds of stuff. It went away for a long time then it came back. I haven't had it for a long time now. They replaced tranny and everything.
I got the code when i got on it hard. And this was even on stock tune. What gets me is some having issues some not. The few that have some was bone stock as well.
Just makes me wonder if my issue is still there. Good to know they covered it though. Hopefully i have issue they cover mine also. After all I had engineers and all involved with my misfire code. 7 trips to dealer and everything.
What is crazy is the ones to seem having issues is manuals. I have not heard of any autos having issues.

Few things have been culprit for miss fire code. pressure plate coming lose causing vibrating in crank sensor. Compression drop or not reading in cylinders. The 8 piston.
Issue for #8 piston seems to be the rings are rolling over. Ford has said it was cause cars was modified till few was bone stock that it happen to. I think total list of cars that it has happen to is about 8 or so.

if i ever have the misfire code one time its back to stock that day, and get some very easy miles on it before it goes.
i have 21,000 miles on the car as its modded now. never a code. i obviously drive it hard.
