Default The old C4 takes down 2 at once

This is my first post, so I figured I'd try and make it a good one. Several months ago I bought an old 1993 Vette. From the beginning I wondered if I had made a mistake after riding in a buddies bolton LS1 02 SS Camaro and another's 01 SVT with 3.73's, programmer and exhaust. Knowing I was out gunned, the car went directly in the garage and I went on the internet gathering info and a plan. About a week later, boxes began showing up on the doorstep. 1.6 Roller rockers, 2800 stall convertor, new Opti, CAI, exhaust, shift kit, adjustable 50-150 brand X shot of juice, free mods and PCMforless tune. For nearly 6 weeks I took a beating from the buds at work. Finally with the mods complete I rolled into work. The Vette is in good shape with 51,000 miles, Quaser blue paint, 700r4 tranny with 3.07 posi but still little respect for an old Lt1.
Now on the way home it was a different story. My buddy with the 01 Cobra pulls up to the street light next to me and rolls into the throttle, wrapping the pipes at about 4 grand. I check the intersection for cops and glance into the mirror. Behind me is a C5 convertible with a guy in sun glasses prepping for battle too. He's shifting around in the drivers seat and I see him selecting a gear. I quickly reach back and open the valve on the nitrous bottle, hit the arming switch and roll the tires over hard to heat em up. Now my buddy brings the RRRR's up next to me and I inch up so were even at the light. I get up againest the convertor at 2600 rpms and wait for the green.

The moment I see the green flash, I stand on the gas pedal hitting the WOT switch and the old Vette comes alive, drifting lightly to the right, then back to the left we cross the intersection sideways, I glance back in the side mirror and see I've put 2 lengths on both cars and I ride it out to 6 grand and move for second gear. The car finally planes out half way through second and stretches the lead on both the Stang and the C5 to 3 1/2. At about 100 I backout of it and the C5 does a flyby at well over 120. My buddy looks over and gives me a half hearted wave and I'm thinking, thankyou Lord for nitrous oxide. Hope you enjoyed it half as much as I did.

Great kill! It's always nice to see a C4 that's modded and cranks out since so many of them are left stock.

Yeah the buddy who had the 01 SVT, drove to San Antonio and traded it in on a 03 SVT convertible a few weeks ago. I had a chance to ride in it last Friday night, man it is a beast above 4500 rpms but wheel hops hard out of the hole and half way through second gear. It reminded me of a 69 396 Chevelle I had back in the 80's. I may need some deeper gears and step up to a 150 shot for round two. Hopefully the old Dana 36 can handle the extra TQ.

I, unlike most people, have a huge soft spot for LT1 C4's, just not their interiors lol

Good kill man! I can't wait to use the spray on my tired old LT1

I dont mind the look of the C4's actually. They are still light, if i could buy one cheap and throw an LSX in it thatd be a great sleeper.

Here are few pictures of the car. Nothing special, which is exactly how I wanted it. Stock, right down to the sawblade rims with 285 run flats, gutted cats and factory mufflers that were cut apart and straight pipe welded in and welded back together. It made 287 hp to the rear wheels with Exhaust, 1.6 RR, CAI, PCM4less tune, free mods and airfoil. 391 hp with the 100 shot on the only dyno within 120 miles. I know it's not the fastest or best looking car in the world but it will weedout most of the posers. San Antonio is the closest strip so I have no idea what it runs. I'd say 12's maybe?

Should easily be 12's. Depends on your 60 ft's. If you blow the tires off it won't be pretty.

How does the stock rear on C4's take to nitrous/DR launches?

Tires seem to be my weak link currently. With the stock converter it blew the tires off, launching at 1200 rpms without nitrous on the street. Now at a 30 mph roll at 3000 rpms on a 100 shot, it sends them up in smoke. With DR's and VHT, I think it would pick the teeth clean off the ring and pinion quick on the little Dana 36. My best bet is pedal it the first 60 ft then roll in the WOT and nitrous.

Nice looking ride, that's a good setup you have! With some drag radials I think you could run 12's on motor. The nitrous will carry you well into the 12's.

Any further plans for it or are you just gonna enjoy driving it for a while?

Thankyou for the great comments. Yall are a standup bunch of guys. Reminds me of the fellas I hung with in the Marines back in the 80's and 90's in North Carolina. Most of those boys ate, breathed and slept thinking nothing but horsepower, alot like here on this forum. But times have changed dramatically, little foreign car now bust out 11's like its nothing. Back in the day, a street car turning 11's was the king of the hill. Now 9's are king and boost reigns supreme on the track and the streets. Thanks again for welcoming me and hopefully more stories to come. I think I'll call my buddy with the 03 SVT tonight and setup a race. If I put him down, I think I'll get a little Mongoose sticker to put on the bumper, with a Cobra in it's mouth.

Is your buddy's 2003 Cobra stock? If is it then I think you'll pull out an easy win pending traction. If it's not then you're gonna have a fun battle on your hands!

Yeah, those Cobras are super strong stock, if it's modded it's lights out for me. He dynoed last weekend at the same place I had the C4 done at. On a bad air day, in 88 degree weather he put down just shy of 380 to the ground. I put down 390 in 55 degree weather with 30 percent humidity.
