Default please help me

unit and bronco,
please let this one ride for a few posts, i need an answer...
my driver's side cat has gone bad and is rattling inside, its not the heat shield, it has thrown the SES code and at high revs gives some white smoke, i need to drive it tonight,my beater is in CLT and i don't have it with me..is it safe to drive, or will i wind up doing damage somehow

It will be fine. Ive been driving my car with just turndowns off of the header collectors for a few days. I dont hammer on it though.

... the cats have a honeycomb of a metalish material on the inside, and the only way you would hear rattling is if you slammed the cat on a speed bump and broke part of the internals off. Chances are this is fine, but it could be a piece on the back and it may get sucked down into to muffler, and POSSIBLY cause some sort of restriction. If you have to drive it go for it, just don't drive it hard.

I dunno, but on my 97 Z, the same thing happened....it was my right catalytic converter on my pass side, the bigger one. so we undid my ypipe, and broke the cone on the inside of the catalytic conver out, all the honeycomb stuff so it would be hollow. I was told that the cone was broke so i had to bust the rest of it out so I did. hope it helps.

HOSS, the same thing happened to my Hi-Flow catalytic (a while back, when I had functioning cats). Pieces of the catalytic substrate have broken apart and may migrate down your catback and get trapped in the muffler, as Phantom noted. In my case the Cat broke apart on the way to the track. The car sounded like a cow running with a cowbell... very embarassing. I ended up just gutting them.

yea, i talked to the guy at the shop today, my cats are under warranty, so i get a new one for free...i may talk him into putting pipes where the cats go, then he can profit off a new converter, and i can get rid of those pieces of ****
