But it wasn't.

You can take a 6 cylinder f-body and put in a LS1, because it could have been in it from the factory. It's still considered a swap. He took a motor that didn't come in his car from the factory, and installed it. End of story, Jesus Christ.

Your Z28 did not come from the factory with an LS6 as no F-body's from 98-02 were ever produced with that engine. Of course you mean LS6 block as in bare block in which a good number of cars came with in late 01-02. Improved oil distribution & bay to breathing being the main advantage over the standard LS1 block.

im glad someone finally brought this up. call it a swap, or don't call it a swap. who gives a ****. getting *** hurt over the terminology is stupid, especially when all this particular argument pretty much boils down to is heads/cam swap. sure, we can all agree its a swap, but again.. it's not like he put a ******* ls7 in it.

on a side note, i know a guy that has an 01 cobra, well.. he blew it up and replaced it with one from an 03 mach. i guess he's supposed to add "motor swap" to his mods list?



and FWIW, my car is slow and is no basis for comparison in any of this discussion. its dirty, almost stock, and slow.

Yes...it's a motor swap. Again I ask, if I put an '04 motor in my '98 GT would you not consider that to be a "swap?"

honestly, i wouldn't care. that was my only point in my post. on the other hand, would that be an 04 motor from a GT? or a termi? two entirely different things...

edit: although i like your example, would you change heads/cam and call it a motor swap?

Because we've probally all wiped the floor with 99 Cobra's. They would struggle to get to the 13's at my track.


Actually GMMG made 69 ls6 Camaro's in 02 to commemorate the zl1.

Hihoe- does the VIN on the motor match the VIN on the chassis?

If that car cross an auction line, 100 out of 100 will say its a motor swap.

I was talking about from a GT, but in my example it really doesn't matter. And if I did a heads/cams swap, I would call it that.

You couldn't get a LS6 in a Camaro from the factory, although it would have been sweet if GM offered that as an option.

I don't think the oe motor has a vin on these.....so what now.

Like I said Bite. To me a "swap" is more involved. Someone could've had a mix up and give someone a ls6 instead of a ls1 and it would go in w/o issue and run fine on the stock tune.

My ls7 has needed the dry sump removed for wet sump, hole drilled in block for dipstick, 58 reluctor wheel changed to a 24, knock and cam sensors are moved, factory intake won't work......now that's a swap.....the other is a replacement. If you don't actually turn the wrenches your self then I can see the confusion.....but I do turn my own wrenches.

LOL..You crack me up. Replacement would be same engine that came out of it. A LS1 not a LS6. So whne my motor blows and I put a Boss engine in it then its just a replacement. I mean it bolts right up and I don't have to do nothing else.

98 LS1 > 98 Cobra. People can say screw mag times all you want, but thats a lot better than nothing. Back in the day Motortrend (i believe) tested the 98 Cobra against the 98 Z28 and the z beat it in (i think) everything other than maybe braking. 0-60, 1/4 mile, even price. I can probably go dig up the issue if you want, but are you telling me if we bet on a 98 Cobra against a 98 Z28, your money would be on the cobra?
