Roll bar?? 11 sec ?
Hey, just wondering if any of you guys are running 11 sec cars without roll bars.
If so, just speak up & if you don't mind tell us why you haven't installed one, or when you expect to install one.

I don't want the weight and I hate the ergonomics of one. I actually use my backseats all the time, and I'm a big SOB myself so even a well done roll cage would really affect my comfort and ease of access/egress of my car. It might be a low 11 second car (10's with tire possible) but it's a street car that will only see a track a couple times a year.
GTO's are very structurally solid though and don't need the rigidity help of a roll cage. Plenty of 9 second guys out there with upwards of 1,000rwhp who have not noticed any issues with flexing. Heck, alot of guys that went with a roll cage complained of worse 60' times due to it becoming too rigid. Not that I'm in that category, but it gives one pause.

My street car never saw a roll cage and never would have even if I kept it. I loved taking it to the track, but in reality, it only happened a few times per year while I was putting 15k+ miles on it per year even though it wasn't my daily driver. It was a street car, not a race car, so overall it wasn't worth the time, effort, weight, money, or ergonomics for a car that was only dipping into roll cage territory. No one made a big deal out of it at track rentals, either. If they did or I made the car significantly faster, I would have made the occasional trip with a couple shake down passes and then one or two solid runs before getting kicked out.
The problem is that now a days, many factory stock cars are running in roll cage territory or beyond, and almost everything coming out of the dealerships takes only a few choice mods to need a roll cage to stay track legal. This is a big issue because most people want to enjoy some track time but aren't willing to spend the money or "ruin" their brand new car just to do so. I imagine a lot more people are getting kicked out these days than 10 years ago.

The z06 can do it as well fairly easily. I really think NHRA should change there rule to 10.99. Hell when i went to the track last season, i figured i could run my GTO on street tires and stay out of cage territory......nope.

Hey Packy, do you ever get any comments at the track for your door bars? According to the NHRA rule book they should pass the driver midway between the shoulder and elbow. They look a little low in the pics. Looks nice though.

unless my truck hangs the one wheel into the air due to frame twist i wont be puttin a cage into it. im going for the "sleeper" street meet race situation. who will line up to a rowdy truck with a cage goin thru the bed and the back window lol. atleast for now i can pass it off on a bad tune and plugs haha. that and a cage on a street driven vehicle is a pain in the *** if you actually dd your ride. a dedicated track car or a car that rarely sees the street tho thats a different story...

For a dd you can always do swing outs and put them in for the track. That's what I plan on for the Mustang, although it will only be a weekend warrior. Who expects a SN95 with an auto to be fast? lol
