help... I own a 1966 Mustang... i know what ur thinking... im sorry... but i am willing to help fight the "war on rice"... my mustang has a 289 V8 (the smallest but thats ok with me b/c of gas nowadays) and it was rebuilt so idk what the previous owner did... it is in the process of restoration as of now and i need some help... I am definately getting some Hooker headers and some 2.5'' Flows... that's first no matter what... but then I need to put more in it... here are my suggestions.. -intake -4bbl carb -3.55 gear -2600rpm torque converter... Id like to know what goes next... feel free to add suggestions of parts but have them kinda cheap... all of the above put together in price is like $1200 or somewhere close to that... also tell me if i am wasting my money and i should save it to buy a lil something else... thanks, -Derek btw, dont worry bout tires and looks, i got them covered... its an automatic and probably mostly stock (idk about the prev. owner, like i said) i just would like it to beat an early 90's Talon/Eclipse turbo AWD....

Yes even my mustang is not in the condition to slaughter rice. One is peg legged and the other is rolling on a space saver... ****** sucks.

ok first things first if theres vinal on the side and a wing that matches absolutly nothing on the car then yes by all means take em out! but please keep in mind there are people that own and mod imports that arnt ricers.

second: dude!, pre 1971 were killer years for stangs ... gotta love em. and im a big anti-ford guy!
ok the only advice i can give you on the powertrain is eather: keep the stock engine in it, or go with somthing that you can build up for cheap. i say go with a 351 look into the windsor vs cleavlend. im not too sure what one is cheaper to build or how many perfomance bits are avalible... i know how ever you can build one of them up for less than you could any other vintage engine.... i know you dont want to build up another engine but look into it if you find a good clean block/ heads/ rods/ and pistions you sould be in good condition. youll definely save on the price of the cam, intake, carb, and headers.
and last don't worrie too much about the awd turbo 1st gen "dsm's" stock there not that impressive and not alot of people want to shell out the $1400 for a better turbo. plus you know if you ever waste one there just going to pull the whole "well lets see you turn a corner" bull ****! oh thats if they want to talk to you after to thrash them build the car for youreslf bro, its all you what you want... if your content with just taking out imports than cool. but if you want to evently lay down the pain ... plan ahead... if you want a big block eventully whats the point of building up 2 engines? but like i said its all you and what you want to do with it!

so with my parting words, check the sig (um if it works), just remmeber american cars can play well with others.... just as long as the other ones understand that they are slower than the american muscle

what were the big cubes they used to put in those 429? cobra jet?....anyways, 351 clevelands can take a lot of abuse. i know someone who owned one back in the 70s, put nitrous straight through the 4 bbl. not the right way to do it, but it worked.

 

cuda what do you mean 1400 for a better turb? you can run 11's on the stock turbo and the average is mid 12's. or if you want to upgrade a big 16g is only 500 i bought a 20g for mine for 450 used. you can do a ball bearing hybrid turbo for 1k. for a properly spent $1400 you can run low 12's with ease.

 

yeah the 429 was the one that they threw together to keep up with the 426 hemi. they also did a couple varrents around the 427 range. but all i know is when we were looking into rebuilding the stock 352 in my uncles galixy it was chaper to get a brand new creat 351 cleavlend and also the performance bits were alot cheaper and more readly avalible!
