Hayabusa vs GSXR-750
A friend of mine recently bought a Gen 1 Busa (2004 i believe). The bike has a full exhaust with header, power commander, and is lowered an inch.
My 750 has a slip-on, power commander, and quickshifter.
We did a bunch of 50 and 70 rolls, and they were by far the best race i've had on this bike. It was pretty much dead nuts, with me having a slight creep starting at about 110mph. On the faster runs we lifted at 145-150 and i was still creeping away ever so slightly at that point. I wish we had had enough room to really run them out, but traffic was not permitting. On a clean 50-150 i have about 1 bike length on him.
I know...that makes no sense whatsoever. He does out-weigh me by 50lbs, but the race played out pretty much the opposite of what we both expected. It should be close down low with the Busa dominating up top.
What also makes no sense is on the 70 rolls the Busa was starting in 1st gear in the meat of the power, while i'm starting a little bit off power in 2nd gear, yet he didn't jump out on me at all. He just sat there the same way he did when we both started in 1st for the 50 rolls.
The mysteries of street racing
We got one vid before the camera died, and it was the first race where he simply clicked the shifter one less time than he thought he did and by that point i was honking so he didn't have time to drop to 1st gear, so he ended up doing a 50 roll from 2nd and getting walked pretty good.

When we hit it the second race and it was side by side i thought for sure i'm getting walked after 120ish, but it just didn't happen. At about 110 i started creeping forward, and the whole time i was dumbfounded.
He's not bad. He's heavy (220+ without gear) but he starts in the right gear, has decently quick clutchless shifts, and you can see in the video he's tucked under the windscreen. Afterwards he said he was watching the tach, making sure not to short shift, etc.
It would be fun to switch bikes and see how bad i pull him, lol.

Opposed to a strong one?
All joking aside, a modern literbike or well ridden 750 can get the jump at on an older hyperbike busa or 14. They weigh a lot more, and in all honesty a gen1 busa isn't that fast. They only make what, 160 to the wheels and weigh like ******* 575lbs. An average literbike is only down ~10hp but weighs over 100lbs less...plus the 50# rider difference and with the extra 150#s most of his torque advantage is gone.
Gen2 Busa is a big improvement.

Dont get me wrong I'm not bashing them, the gen1 busa was a legend in its time and it probably has the biggest aftermarket of any non Harley motorcycle. They sky is the limit with them and a nice turbo stroker is not to be fucked with.
Without a few mods though, a Gen1 is getting its *** handed to it by a new s1k or zx10.

My gen 1 only ran low 10s at 135-137 with a full system. It made 160 to the tire, and I weigh 240. Sounds about right to me if you're a light rider on the 750 - You're talking about a 15 year old bike. Tech has come a long way.
Busa comfy though. Couch on wheels for fat guys like me

Busa needs a tune up or a rider swap.. ANY gen 1 Busa will trap 140 mph in the 1/4 with a 200lb rider...MINIMUM.. A 750 gixxer with 125rwhp will trap 132-135mph with a 180lb rider..
Do the math..
BUT... On the street with different riders, gearing and starts is a whole different ball game.
My 01 1000 traps 141 mph with my on it, about the same as a gen 1 Busa, yes on 2nd gear hwy rolls I rape them to 140... Weird stuff happens on the street..

A big high torque bike like a busa is not nearly as rider dependant as a high strung 600 or 750. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the riders skill and focus more on their weight.
Beware light guys on big bikes .

LOL. This is news to me. I've never had a problem with a stock or near stock 750. Of course that's just my experience, not sure how you fare against the smaller bikes on your 'Busa.

Rider skill ALWAYS plays a significant role, hence why you have guys that trap average mid 130s in their Gen 1's and then guys like me that can take that exact same bike to 139-140+ traps in the same/similar conditions. You have to be capable of getting the most out of it and not every rider can do that.
