Yes and no. Even a stock or cheapo stall will see some MPH gains of you tune it to lock at the right MPH. The more efficient the stall, the more gains you will see. I went from 115 mph to 118.5 by tuning my Vig 2800 (9.5" single disk) to lock at 88 mph. It was literally like a small shot when it locked up. Here is a vid clearly showing my last SS taking off like a rocket from a 150 shot 01 Cobra on lock-up.

It really did. I know it wasn't good for the verter being a single disk, but it was definitely effective. I almost posted that run we did instead to show how well it works. Let me know when you want to run man, I'd love to get a before and after comparison.

Raced alot of GTO's, too, and mine isn't out of the norm. Maybe your neck of the woods has more then it's normal share of clueless GTO owners?

Far as big stall converters go, most stalled cars don't lock up there converters at WOT because it's brutal on the lockup clutch and WILL wear it out/break it sooner or later. Without that lockup ability, a stalled car is gonna have less top end then a stock stall car.

For mine, my stall is done helping at around 5200rpm and from that point on the converter is hurting my performance. Period, no arguing or internet bullshitting is gonna make that change. I verified that with a friend of mine: 70-120 races it was nearly 2 car difference. didn't dig race, but I'm sure I more then made up for that if we went from a dig or low roll.

Now I don't know if your stall is big enough to have a noticeable impact on top speed but I assume it has to be similar to a 3600.

I did 12.5 @ 111 mph with 3.73s, lcas, tire, and a tune(stock stall, manifolds, y pipe, catback!). 2002 z28 auto

I raced a cam/fast intake/full exhaust 6 speed ls2 6.0 gto that made 420 whp and he did 12.6 @ 115 mph.

The GTO is simply NO COMPARISON for the F body mod for mod, end of story.

I was talking about the specific GTO in the OP, don't get butthurt. But generally GTOs are unimpressive.

The GTO has more than enough power to take on a ls1. There are some people that wont a nice DD. I never lost to a ls1 with similar mods and i owned a 6spd ls2.

You are truly are clueless aren't you? I've raced what has to be nearing 100 fbodies and at least 20 GTO's in dig and roll races. Lot of them cars I ran multiple times as we all upgraded our stuff. But your couple of races trump all that huh? I just gotta ask, those times when you are forced to acknowledge being wrong; do they physically hurt?

Too late to reason with him, he made up his mind after watching some youtube videos and nothing will change it.

I think its safe to say that an LS2 GTO and an LS1 F-Body are pretty evenly matched mod for mod. Just look at the vid. The LS1 GTO is obviously a little behind mod for mod, for obvious reasons. No need to over think it too much, any car can be faster or slower than the next for a million different reasons.

Agreed. I once was on a kill streak of ls1 fbodies when I was LT/cai/catback/tune and ran my mouth to a group of guys on lsxnation and had one of them beat me from every speed I could think of with the same mods in his Z28 that i had in my GTO. Then I beat two other guys in that group who had more mods then me.

Didn't your stroker have issues pulling a H/C ls1?

Was a maf issues that I bandaided with a switch from vavaram to svede cai (allowed me to rev to 6,100 with power instead of 5,200rpm)

After this race I did the full bios reprogram that was needed to fix the maf amperage issues and it revs to 7200 with full power finally.

I'd trade my f-body in a heartbeat for a GTO. Regardless of which one is easier to go faster in, the GTO is twice the car an F-Body is when it comes to comfort, build quality, etc. JMO of course.

I agree. I've owned both. And yes the gto may be slower but the interior and overall quality is just so much better IMO

Agreed. My buddy's GTO's interior is sweet. Seats are nice and the dash is killer. Makes my Mustang look like it has the interior out of a bulldozer.
