I mean who in the section aside from Mike, Hio, and me even has one? I'm sure I'm missing a couple right now but it's not like they're everywhere, lol.
You can get 270RWHP out of it with bolt ons. 300+ with a cam.
I guess it's how fast you want to go. With bolt ons they have ran up to 106 mph. Don't know why you couldn't hit 110 with a mild cam. Buying all the stuff for an LS swap won't be cheap either. Then of course good heads for an SBC are cheap and everywhere, then you can get piles of HP.
It's your car, build it how you like it. That's what it's all about. I already have an LS car and a swap is always more involved than people think. I'm just going to leave mine SBC based.
I have been in the LS business for some years modding and tuning mostly Fbodies and a few Corvettes. I have a ton of LS stuff lying around and we build our own transmissions. I have got most of the swap parts for free including headers. There are pictures in my albums of the last 90' Camaro I swapped and it turned out beautiful IMO. I have done a 69' Camaro swap as well and many HCI set ups. A third gen swap is actually a walk in the park. I think all old cars should have a LS conversion of one kind or another except a few rare original cars.
Back then they were fast. A SD TPI is a good starting point and the best of the TPI Fbody motors. The real battle would be against a 87-88 Fox which are the fastest ones of the 5.0s
I remember that from 1987. The fox LX 5.0 was faster than the 5.7 TPI Z28 and the 5.0 five speed. After that Ford started a serious decline until BOOM the new 5.0 went to kicking Camaro ***. Man that took along time.
My fox is a turd, but it is automatic too. I did run a stalled LX that had a few bolt ons with my Formula when it was HCI untuned. It wasn't pretty. To be fair, I was stalled auto as well.

It depends what you want. If you want 400 or less RWHP there is zero point in an LS swap. An SBC 350 can make that in its sleep. Only difference is I find them more crude and a little harder to work on. But you're splitting hairs really
Data logging, tunability, dependability, weight, fuel economy, way better transmission control and 4L80e swaps. Not to mention cool factor. Damn hammer, I thought you knew your **** but I get the idea that you just have to have the last word.

Wtf? Now you're just saying things. About the only thing there that made sense was weight. Unless you use an iron block.
Like I said if you want to do an LS swap, cool. Otherwise it's mostly unnecessary. Unless you have a mustang then swap away
I think even the Ford SRK guys will agree that you are wrong about that. I all made sense. How much HP does this stock TPI make? Driving back from California in this car netted me 22.7 MPG @ 75-80 MPH. I bet the LS will do better even cammed and stalled. The transmission in this car is in excellent shape but the 1-2 shift is super early even at WOT. It would be a PITA to change that. The converter locks when it wants instead of when I want. If these aren't disadvantages, I guess you are correct. I will just throw a carb on it and a turbo 350 and call it a day.
You can hold 1st gear in a Th700 as long as you want to. Why worry about what hp a stock TPI makes when it's the worst intake ever made and there are many options to correct it? You're going to spend thousands on an LS swap to save yourself the hassle of an intake swap and to gain a couple MPG?
Even if it were 5 mpg calculate what that were to save you if you drive the car 10,000 miles per yer.

You're doin it wrong if your h/c/i formy got out ran buy a fox with that had bolt-ons. ......even if one if the bolt-ons was nos on the fox.
Now go run your fox and formy. Post vids
I don't want to see you post again with out a pic of the typhoon

A thumpin 350 is pretty cool to. I just hate seeing errything with a ls swap i guess.
