[getting smoked by an SS]

my and my bud were cruising around Gandy in his modded WRX Sti (24psi, header, exhaust, some computer reprogramming, intake- about 290HP) and came across "the muscle pack" it's 3 4th gen T/As, a SS Camaro, and two dyno drag Cobras (one boasting 642RWHP the other 504 ) that tend to cruise together. after shooting the **** and taking a peek in under cobras' hoods my bud thinks he can take on the SS camaro (claims to be Stock except for forged pistons and headers but you'll see...). well, we head out to the 275 bridge and putter down to about 25mph the line up is 2 empty lanes on the left, then a red T/A the SS camaro, and us in the Sti. the T/A gives 3 honks and we punch it. the sti is doing pretty well through 1st and 2nd gear hanging in and keeping up but... right as we hit 3rd gear then the SS leaves both the T/A and us like we were standing still and we can smell the sweetness of NO2 coming from the SS. once we were in 4th the T/A gained about a car-length on us.

that SS was stoopid fast. I think we were doing around 105 when he took off. unbelievable.

on a side note that *** kicking by the SS is what made me decide on a LS1 instead of a standard SBC for the Fiero.

Go ls1 in the fiero.

Hard to tell the mods on an ls1/ls6 by just looking under the hood,

could be making a ton of hp and look bone stock.

Nice death, however.

hmm, when I spray I can smell the additive (sulfer dioxide) they put into nitrous to make sure you don't sniff it. Nitrous itself however is a colorless odorless gas. And it's N2O, not NO2.

Probably less than that. AWD cars lose a lot more through their drivetrain than we do.

Guys, I don't think he literally meant he could smell the N2O, I think he was just saying that he was guessing that the car was spraying.

Well, if this kid doesn't want to look like a typical ricer punk, he shoulldn't say stupid **** like "the sweet smell of nitrous"...its just dumb. I guess I am intolerant of idiot teenage ricer punks for some strange reason.

First general rule of thumb when you are going to make fun of somebody is to make sure you know what you are talking about. If somebody sprays nitrous you will smell the sulfer dioxide that is added to non-medical grade (standard car use) nitrous coming out of the exhaust.

Drivetrain loss for the standard WRX is around 25%. 227HP at the crank = about 170HP at the wheels. I would assume the Sti's loss is close to being the same. So, 300 at the crank, with a 25% loss, would put the Sti's HP at around 225 at the ground.

yeah...i was just searching around some different sites and 25% is the number that keeps popping up......but doesn't the sti have some completely new drivetrain that's supposed to knock that % down from the wrx? they're definetely not built as a straight line racer, but both hot rod and car & driver had it running 13.2s.......that's not too bad...the hot rod test was heads up vs. a 04' cobra that ran a 13.3....i don't know what they usually run, but that's pretty impressive.....like the ugly girl with a nice personality.......

Well, you really gotta take a visit to the track if you wanna see what cars are running. Magazines really don't mean ****, I've seen stock STIs running 13.1s-13.6s at E-town, and I could hit 13.3s with a new Cobra if I shifted with my *******. '03/'04 Cobras should be in easy 12s.
