Default 71' Big block Vette vs Paxton S550

I got a few runs in with a buddy of mine who has been chasing me around for a while to run. Unfortunately, my fuel pump gave up the ghost in high gear every pull but.......

71' Vette, mild pump gas, GM iron head 496, T400, 3.36 gears.

16, S550, A6, Paxton 2200SL, drag pack

Thanks man... Hardly wicked, just fun/reliable cruisers...

I went out street racing my 71' a few Fridays ago and I ran a bolt on ZR1 and H/C/I 6th Gen SS and my car was intermittently nosing over that night.

I went through a few system checks and thought I had it figured out but, when I went and ran the S550 during the day, it was really apparent the fuel pump is dead. I was leaning out in the top of 2nd get at 14.5 afr, then in 3rd it would go 18-19 AFR and just die there...

I just ordered $2k worth of **** to build my fuel system so I'll have plenty of fuel for down the road if I do a kit or a big motor. This old 496 just won't blow up though so, I'm gonna keep running it until it pops...

The 6th Gen was H/C/ported intake/E85 making 530 rwhp...it was a M6 car tho. We ran from a 55 roll and he started in 3rd so I just walked away easily..(he should have been in 2nd). Then we did a 30 roll on asphalt and he blew the tires off in 1st and I walked away.. The owner didn’t really know wtf he was doing out there. He needs some tires for sure. I still think I would beat him bad from a 30 roll but from a 50-60 roll I bet they’ll be close. I have vids of both runs I can post up but...the vids aren’t that good.

The ZR1 I ran from a 50 roll, he started pulling me in 3rd and had 2-3 cars on me in 4th when we let out. If we had kept going, he would have kept pulling harder and harder.

I also ran him from a dig, we both spun but I stayed out on him until the end where he put a car on me in the traps. My fuel pump was dying out in 3rd so he sky walked me the whole second half of the run.

I should be able to cover him by a couple cars on a dig with the new fuel system.

His car is definitely faster after 100 mph, no doubt about it. He freight trains up top. His car made 601 rwhp and is about 3500lbs with him in it. Mine makes around 500rwhp and is 3700lbs with me in it. Not to mention me driving through a converter and his superior aeros. I was definitely not expecting to beat him on the highway. Lol.

The same ZR1 put a few cars on my C7Z on a highway roll, but I had a 200lb passenger and the ZR1 STOLE the move, I hadn’t even finished down shifting when he took the hit. From a 45 -130 roll, I usually beat him in my C7Z. We dynoed them the same day, same dyno, 30 mins apart and I made 564 rwhp (A8), he made 601 rwhp.

Thanks... it’s a lot of fun for an old musclecar. Just an ole truck motor

Been very reliable and fun. I’ve drove it cross country twice in the last 3 years...with a carb and no OD..

Still has some fight left in her..

Good runs. Kinda disappointed in the s550. He should be on least 14lbs of boost.

Yeah he is not nearly turned up that much. I think he is only on about 10 psi. He had a pretty big pulley on the blower. Its a Lund tune deal with the Ngauge. Its never been on a dyno. I would guess it makes 600 rwhp or so....maybe 625...

He is talking about going to E85 and putting a converter in it, it should roll out then.

Always love for old junkers if they run good. Ol vette runs strong.

Still to this day I have not been impressed more, by a car at my track, than an old junker. Junker looking 2nd gen camaro N/A 555 bbc. Th350 w/ a 10 bolt. Running 1.2 60', 5.x 1/8, low 9 sec 1/4 at over 140mph. Driven to & from track.

Beautiful car man. Hard to beat a BBC, even a mild iron headed 500rwhp one like this one must have an absolutely insane power curve. Would demolish an NA SBC or LS with similar rwhp.

My biggest dissapointment is not being able to put a BBC in my 4th gen without losing every ounce of streetability...would have no wipers, no AC, and custom k-member . If I could at least keep wipers I would do it...
