Default Z28 vs 1st Gen eclipse

Ok, heres the story, there is this guy with a 1st gen eclipse turbo that is pretty cocky. He ran a 13.3 at the quarter mile a few weeks ago. he thinks that just because he hit a 13.3 at the track ( very respecable time for a old *** eclipse by the way) that no one will step up to him. i will step up this upcoming weekend. i have not took my car to the 1/4 yet but im pretty sure that i can get my car to break 12's. what do u guys think?

I fully agree that you will win. However, you need to remember his car is almost as heavy and only running a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder. I'd say that's pretty respectable.

Im not trying to say that i am going to win for sure, but im pretty sure i can break 12's in the quarter compared to his 13.3. some needs to bring this cocky MF down . He claims that he smashs on LT1's and older CAMARO IROZ Z28 and some other bullshit. He thinks that because he beat a few bone stock LT1 's and IroqZ28s that he will smash on me just like he did them . ill show him other whys

68maro---
I own a 96 GSX and with just under 1/4 tank and me in it (I weight 165) my total weight is 3440 lbs so I don't know where you are getting your numbers from. I still run 11.5 with only about $5000 into the car.

The non awd DSMs are just under 3k. The only drawback is without the awd even the turbo version is kinda worthless on the street from a dig.

I hope he's not braggin' about the mid 80's IROC's w/305's. Don't get me wrong I love F-body's but what the hell was Chevy thinking? Didn't they have the same auto trannies as the S-10's? Maybe he's thinking of the Big Bad 4 banger F-body's that GM produced for a few years there. I think that they had Chevette engines

GOOD LUCK! Not that I think you'll need it

Yeah he brags about betaing older IROQS with the 5.7 and older Z'S with the 5.0 he also brags that he can take out bone stock LT1's . I will show him what a LS1 can do . i need to stop his winning streak and will . The race is tonight by the way. im pretty sure it will be a good run but i should take him. For anyone that lives in Southern California i will be racing in Hemet,CA 2night

seriously since when did low 13's no longer become respectable times? If im not mistaken, on corral.net most mustang guys are trying to bolt on to get out of the fuckign 14's...they target 13's with just bolt ons...whats not to respect about that? they start in the low mid 14's and drop to 13's...shaving off a full second off your et's without a power adder is damn impressive. i can respect a dsm that runs 13's / high 12's at a track...cause atleast if they are getting into those numbers...they are spending the money atleast somewhat on the right **** and not this ricer bullshit.

we had ourselves a little oil crisis back in the 80s...kinda pointless for automobile manufacturers to create high hosepower cars that need higher octane fuel and gobs of it when people gotta wait in line for 6 hours to get 5 gallons of gas...so we can excuse auto makers for this time period. we'll dedicate those years as "the big Whoops".

Look I'm not saying that 13's are bad times. All i'm saying is I don't know if I would brag on a stock mid 80's Z.
Gas crunch??? In the 80's??? I grew up the heart of GM Automotive country and NEVER waited in line for gas. NEVER! If I did it was because it was lunch hour. (You may have your decades confused, this I remember under the Carter Admin. definately THE BIG WHOOOPS!)
Plus weren't these built on the platform of the IROC series cars?? If we were so worried about gas then why the hell were we still running NASCAR series and building cars based on that???? I'm pretty sure that some races were cancelled in the 70's. I could be wrong.

80's tech wasn't about gas, it was (and still is) about environmentalist wakos setting the EPA' agenda for gasoline consumption. Beacause of this we were getting our butt's kicked by imports on every level including emission controls and got caught behind the proverbial 8-ball. IMO this lead to the piggiest cars and worst built cars since my '77 Monte Carlo that the outside door handle would fall off consistantly. We had workers blaming it on bad engineering and Engineering blaming it on well...the workers Let's face it...it was the 70's.

Lastly they say we're under a gas crisis now yet the "Big 3" are putting out more Gas Guzzlin SUV's and High HP cars (that's what the wakos call 'em) then they have in the past twenty years. WTF up wit dat??? Are we finally catching up. Can we build a H/O-H/HP auto and still meet EPA (errr...wakos ) guidlines for gas consumption?

Not looking to start an argument here but this is the way I see it. JMO.

I shall get down now. And yes this is 60 seconds you won't get back!

So, how'd the race turn out?

Unfortunately, 13s aren't too quick nowadays. Speed is going warp. ****, I feel slow in an 11 sec. car.
80's was about emissions.
70's was about gas and emissions.

I had a 1st gen, FWD turbo DSM as my first car, brand new. I always wished I had gotten a Fox bod 5.0 or a 5.7L F-bod instead. I eventually did both.
