Beating a katana is not the same as owning a fast car.

I have owned 2 katanas, and I even raced my car against the person who bought my last one. It was as close to pure murder as anything I've ever experienced.

I'd love to get me smoking half a dozen katanas on tape, I think that would shut you fools up.

Katanas are slow. I have owned them. They are okay from a stop, they get demolished from a roll. A modded LS1 would have NO problems raping them repeatedly. The new body styles are even slower than the older ones, they have almost 10 hp less because of smog requirement of a carb'd bike.

You people who said an LS1 couldn't beat a katana are full of ****. You don't know what you are talking about, so shut your mouth. Quit calling BS on the guy. Its obviously YOU don't know what you're talking about.

Katanas are slow.

A stock LS1 willl destroy them on the highway, they will also take a new rider (which this one was) from a stop. End of story.

 

Okay, the ONLY RACE mentioned in the kill story was a race with a decently modified katana from a DIG. There was no mention of a STOCK katana, so we can quit with the remarks of how slow a stock one is. There was no mention of a roll race, so telling me how bad they are from a roll makes no sense. You admitted that they are "OKAY" from a dig but dogs from a roll ... that is fine. You also are comparing a stock one to a modded LS1. I would have to say a cam and some gear/sprocket work should probably pep it up a bit, no?

When you bring it down to the facts you have exactly what I originally said. You have a modified mid 12 second bike vs. a light bolt-on 13 second flat LS1. Decision, guy on the bike couldn't ride, which is the reason the LS1 won....just as I originally said. I am well aware katana's are pretty slow, however I don't just hear the name "katana" and assume it is a 14 second bike and has a crappy driver on it. I was calling BS on this guy, this race, this modified katana. If you want to prove your intellectual superiority and call me some more names cause you think you are right, that’s fine be my guest.

The fact that he added in 2 extra races after people started calling BS makes me even more skeptical then I was in the first place. Everytime someone says BS, he just adds another "race" to his little dream.


First post .... He claims there was 1 race from a dig.


Second Post ... Now there is 2 races, one from a dig and one from a roll.


And Finally the Third Post .... 3 races now, maybe just a really bad memory?

Not to mention the fact that I would love to see your intake/spark plug wires LS1 run a 12.5 second quarter. If you were to get that on tape I will gladly retract my BS.

z98, he didnt say a stock katana, he said a modified? now it may just be my stupidity, but bikes arent really all that slow stock, but one thats modified? 12 sec 11 maybe..... i mean "his stories full of holes" (in the voice of cartmen)

he has like a couple of unpower mods compared to your 150 shot, and heads

 

Am I the only one who's thinking - Who cares? It doesn't sound that far fetched to me. He didn't seem to know much about the mods on the Kat, so maybe they were pointless mods. Maybe the bike is a heap. Most likely the driver is a novice.

I can say this...a good friend of mine has an R6 (wants an R1 - doesn't everybody), he has raced me a few times "for practice". On his best runs, he's at my front door seam. Now he's only been riding for...eh...10 months maybe. So i'm sure he's got alot of improving to do. To further slope the playing field, i've been driving manual trannies my whole life, I have four high performance driving classes and two sanctioned track events to my credit, so i'm no slacker when it comes to racing (i'm just not a big fan of doing it on the street). Now I happen to know next to nothing about bikes, so maybe this is good, maybe this is pointless. Take it as you wish.

 

no, i meant exactly what i wrote. and what is to be about?? the katana is a slow bike. if you can get one to launch hard, then you got a chance against a mid-low 13 sec car. if the rider blows the launch, it's toast. think about it... how many times have you seen a faster car loose cuz of a ****-poor launch? i blew a launch once at rockingham and turned a 14.2 (had to get out of it twice) but otherwise the car ran 13.1-13.2 all day long. a shortish wheelbase bike like the katana can be quite hard to nail a launch on for most street riders.

and besides, who mods a katana anyways? i can see a pipe/jetting and possibly a sprocket, but cams?

edit: fwiw, most of the times that get posted in the glossy motorcycle mags are corrected. rarely do these bikes run as fast or faster. also, i had a conversation with brian catterson (cycle world) at sears point raceway once during an ama event and he said that pretty much all the bikes that the motorcycle press gets are "ringers".
