I like the 05 GTO and would take one over the Cobra.
That being said,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

My Cobra ran 12.6 @113 bone stock with 800 miles on it. Let me know when a GTO runs better than that bone stock.

Why didn't you like the Cobra? You obviously liked it enough to buy it in the first place and it seems to have run well for you

 

damn not too many cars that can run 12.4's stock the gto is cool but the cobra's faster I accept it

i dont think one will beat your 113mph trap speed, but maybe the 12.6 if they got perfect track conditions, temp, track prep, humid, etc. still the chances are very slim, but if it ever happens that would be sweet

 

Your right it's not gonna happen and part of the reason is the weight of the GTO. If you look at the C6 Vette with the same engine it's capable of mid 12's all day. The best bone stock time I've seen for a '05 GTO is 12.8 and the best trap speed 110 so they're not quite in the '03/04 Cobra's league.

P.S. Another thing that slows the '05 GTO and C6 Vette down is that damn torque management. Take that off and the times will increase greatly.

The Cobra would win, but.. it would be close enough to who was a better driver. The better driver would almost always win.. All things being equal, Yes the Cobra would win. This rubs me the wrong way to just leave it as a win for the Stang because the damn Stang is blown the GTO is all motor... But... Comparing the two as they are yes the stang wins thanks to the Supercharger. Suprecharge the GTO, and we're in business

This is the most rediculous argument ever, let's put an end to it . Now I honestly don't care what differences there are, they come however they come. With that said, 4.6 to 6.0 liter. Who the **** cares?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?! I don't think I have ever heard a cobra owner complaining that the GTO has 6 litres (or 5.7 for older LS1). It's just a stupid argument.

 

Stock is stock, thats it, nothing else should be said. It can have an engine for every f-ing wheel and it wouldnt matter, because that's what the car is.

Dyno numbers vary (and can be manipulated)......360s is the ave. I see out here in Ca....could be the 91 octane and weather playing its part......In the dead of winter in MI on 93 octane and a happy dyno anything is possible, but a GTO beating a Cobra isn't!

 

You think Forced induction vs non is fair? You are sounding like the rice community. It takes them FI to compete for them or $10,000 in motor work. I'm not making excuses, I up and said the 03-04 Cobra is a bad assed car, and stock v stock against the GTO (5.7 or 6.0), LS1, the cobra willl win givin all things equal.

 

So, thats means, going by your logic, that me racing a viper would be unfair because he has 2 more cylinders? Oh, wait, you were just talking about FI, ok hows this, a Saleen S7 vs. an SLR Mclaren? or an E55 AMG vs the new V10 M5? Are those unfair because one is FI and the other isnt? Thats the most ridiculous ive ever heard.

As i've already said, stock is stock, period. When it comes to what the company decides to put on the car ANYTHING IS FAIR GAME. Now, please, stop your whining, it's making the rest of us GM guys look bad.

RaRe99SS, I didn't mean to sound like an *** with that post. I respect the fact that people are entitled to their own opinions. I just believe that your opinion in this matter, which is very common, is misguided, biased, and not thought out very well. Sorry if I sounded a little forward, but just think about it.

 

i think that 6.0 GTO willl take the cobra off the line; maybe up to 50mph or so then cobra will walk on GTO. ive seen it happened. FYI; ls1 vs ls2 GTO. usually GTO wins but i would say drivers game/ GTO has better chance. STOCK vs STOCK.

 

Yes, I do think it is fair when they both come like that stock. 4.6 vs 6.0 should technically be unfair using your reasoning, as well as the 8.5-1 compression compared to the around 11.0-1 compression. But on that same note, I feel stupid even stating that. I guess a GTP against an LS1 is also unfair, since the GTP has the supercharger and everything

The GTO's 6.0 is comparable to the Cobra's 4.6/ supercharger set up...
If my resources/ math is right, the GTO's 6.0 and Cobra's 4.6/SC is very close in CFM...which seems correct considering production HP#s (Which I think the Cobra is a little under rated or GTO over rated)
So its really fair to say "Its got a blower" when its all relative to moving air in and out of the motor = One automotive manufacture used a blower to achieve this another Cubic inch......seems to me they are on pretty equal playing fields STOCK vs STOCK........except the Cobra might have a weight advantage.

All this from a LS1/LS6 owner....geeeeeeeesh
