Yea I had an 2000 LS1 Z28 they are fast top end cars but the lt1 has a little more low end grunt the problem with the LS1 is that the power is a little too refined for me! Not really too much pull at 70-80mph they kinda run outta breath at these speeds!

My car was originally a 305 and I put an L98 out of a 91 corvette in, which has aluminum heads and i THINK is rated at 250 hp 350 tq. Back when my car was a 305 tpi with just exhaust and K&N's I hung with 5.0's all of the time...(the 305 was rated at 230 hp and 300 tq)

But I do have to admit..5.0's are untouchable especially in the 1/8 mile. Phew...9.8 @ 71mph with exhaust...DAMN!!

My mom's SABLE, yes 2002 Mercury sable, traps only 2 mph less than a 5.0 down at the 1/8 mile. The sable 10.4@68, the 5.0 9.9-10.00's at 70 LOL

I saw a new 350Z trap 72-73 on 3 back to back runs at 9.5-9.8 in the 1/8th (he did have a passenger). But still...A stock 5.0 is not much of a threat to most sports cars (after the hole shot) But I find it funny that the Z-owners still have something to fear. As to the 5.0 and how it stacks up, my friend has claimed kills on SRt4's,WRX (non-STI) several 99+ 5-speed GT's and has gained the hole shot against a few LS1's (they later passed him obviously), he did lose badly to a NSX once, thats about it as far as i know, his mods are 89? LX hatckback 5.0 with a 5-speed, 3.73 gears, CAI, pullies, full exhaust.

I dont understand why the 9.8???? My 90 model went 9.24 on its very first pass ever at 74mph. Ended up going 9.08 that night with only cold air kit and pullies. Thats an auto car, a 5 spd would be much quicker with a half decent driver. I know several aod cars that run low 10s, but most 5 speeds will run low 9s to high 8s with any kind of driver at all. I am dying to race a boy here in town now that has a 97-98 LS1 camaro that I waxed with my old white car, I wanna see what he has for my AOD car. He should win, but I dont think so judging by the ammount he lost to my old GT. I could leave my aod car in OD and run quicker than 9.8s even with the 3.27 gears. You must live in the land of slow 5.0s. Dont judge them all by those, you will be in trouble.

Some are fast. Some are slow. Some are cocky. Some are not. It's the same with every group.

i'll give it to you that the 5-speeds can pull decent times, but the fastest down there at the track that i've seen was a red probably 92-93 GT fox-body with exhaust and air intake and he pulled a 9.45@74, thats the fastest near stock one i've seen. I'm sure there are some that can pull better times, but the same goes for the L98's, sure was a good match-up in the late 80's, early 90's. I wish I would of had my license back then it would of been a lot more fun than today.

This is a 1st. An LS1 running out of breath at 70-80mph? This is when the LS1's really start to shine. The stock LS1 heads are great breathing heads and don't run out of breath at 70-80mph. Sounds more like you are talking about an LT1.

87-88 were the fastest 5.0s except the 93 cobra, which has been documented to pull 13.47 with bumped timing, removed air silencer, short-belt, and lowered tire pressure.

well one of my buddies as a 89 5.0 5speed, with cold air, pulley, very small cam, 373 gears, 4cyl trainy wich makes the gears around 410. with a set of drag radials and with a 75 shot was running 8.3s all night so yes they can be fast through the 1/8th but theydo fall short in the quarter. just think how much faster a ls1 would be if it weighed 400 lbs less? a lot faster!

yeah i got some buddies that have fox bodies, they always tell me some **** to do to my car that doesnt work as well on f-bodies like "get a new MAF". They also mentioned something about a FAST intake, but chnaged and told me to "get a metal one". I think they're out to sabotage me, they hate it when i bring up that they have built motors and rollcages, alot of other ****, basically track only cars, and are hitting mid 11's when theres guys on here with bolt-ons and a cam running the same times. Other than that they think they are the fastest ****. One of the guys is about to drop over 3gs on 347 shortblock. They love comparing their cars to my pretty much stock car.

I think one of the main things that makes the 5.0 so popular is the fact that it is so cheap to mod. THat is what made me sell my F-body. It really wasnt that fast (LT1) and it would have taken a lot of money to make it fast, and then I would have a fast car with 170K miles on it. So I just sold it and bought a 5.0 and put a new, modded drivetrain in it. Not that mustangs or F-bods are better, just one is cheaper to mod than the other. I am someone who gets satisfaction out of having something unique, hence I like to mod. BTW, got a chance to take a ride in my friends 2000 LS1 TA. It impressed me, I want to run it, but the interior SUCKED, my 95 was in really good shape compared to his interior, did GM's quality fall off in the LS1 interiors or has he just trashed his? (My 1988 5.0 has less broken stuff on the interior, mainly limited to the driver's seat being frayed on the vinyle, very minor.)

the 4cyl tranny only had a steeper 1st gear. I cant pull the numbers outta my head right now, but that was the only difference.

Interesting, my SRT4 ran 14.10's @ 98; in 90 degree weather and not to mention 90% humidity that day and its completely stock. A Fox with the mods you mentioned above is not going to kill the cars you mentioned.

Just saying...
